There is a user guide available it seems.

Have a read, get to know the device while waiting for delivery

http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/g...N900_UG_en.pdf

I'm sure it'll be useful for those with 'lended' units as well (they didn't get a user guide).

But on NSU, that's what available.

I have not seen any other later firmwares.
If they are shipping now, I reckon that's the firmware it'll come with.
you're just guessing, but presenting this information as fact.

i find it highly unlikely the devices will be shipped with 2 week old firmware (yes, the 42 stands for week 42).
the fact that these are currently on NSU doesn't say anything. that can change quickly.

I double check on Nokia site Can I Update? @ http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-...e/can-i-update

Go there and punched in a N900 product code ie UK 0560826 it says:

Latest available software for Nokia N900, product code 0560826
Version: 1.2009.42.11

How can you expect them to put anything newer on there when the newest is week 42 firmware?
Plus it has already started rolling out of the factory, pulling them all back and update the firmware?
What's the problem with having an old firmware? You can still update it at home.
The N97 on sale right now still have v10 in them (v10 is 4 months old)!

so?
you don't have a retail device. no one has. ergo you're guessing.
"latest available" means in the context of NSU. and as i said that can change quickly.

So you're saying the old firmware shouldn't be in there, that Nokia should pull back all the N900s already on its way out, unpack all the boxes, update the firmware on the phone, repack and send it out?

My point is if they already started shipment, that's the firmware the phone will have.

What's the point in arguing what firmware it has when you got it? It doesn't matter what firmware it has. You can just update it to the newest one at the time you got your device.

i know, and i'm telling you that you don't know that
it's just speculation. maybe they put an interim version on NSU so the preview-devices have an upgrade path to the release version.

If I remember well, N900 should have auto-update for it's firmware directly from the phone, ain't that right? So no need for NSU or web checks of available firmware versions.

Correct.
NSU would be consider as a tool to reinstall firmware/flash the N900

The web checks & update is similar to the current FOTA (Firmware Over The Air)

The 2 is similar but the technology is different.
For example, the latest v20 firmware for N97, when updating with NSU file size ~ 150mb but on FOTA it's only 15mb.

yes, of course.

all i'm saying is that this statement:

shouldn't have been presented as a fact. that's the version on NSU right now, but that doesn't mean devices will ship with it.

nokia has been tweaking on the software the past few days (remember that delay-thingy? ), so why would they ship 4 week old software?
