This happened to me yesterday too. I have it hooked up to the car nav, so every time I enter the car it automatically connects BT. So yesterday shortly after starting the car the nav screen came on with the name of my wife and I heard ringing. I thought that she called me although I was puzzled by the different ringtone - I thought that it was because of BT.

Anyways it turned out that MY PHONE CALLED HER as opposed to her calling me. The ringtone I thought I heard was the tone that you hear when you call people. So anyways, how do I know it was calling her and not the other way around? While during the call she called me this time for real (we both finish at 5pm) because I saw incoming call so I switched to that call and later cancelled the call that my phone originated.

This is really weird - it is a MAJOR BUG. Hope this will never happen again.

Yes, but my point was only that the "butt-dialing" that I've seen (and experienced) before told me that very few of those called will call you back to tell you they've been called.

Which means that the problem we're discussing could be much, much larger than it seems: If the device keep calling folks, and most of them actually don't call back to tell you, and the calls don't show up in the call list... for all we know the device may be calling everywhere all day.

Maybe leaving the phone near the soundcard will help.. at least we should hear the well-known GSM phone sound. And if we don't, then the calls are coming from somewhere else..

I tried to log in to bugs.maemo.org with my talk.maemo.org account. It didn't work. I will not create yet another account to post a bug as I already have zillions of different useless accounts for one-off things. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Sorry, I just axed the bugs site :-)

i agree with you here about more accounts for the same site.

on the note of the ghost dialing. Can the people suffering confirm that these are GSM calls or over a different method.

This is a linux device so i'm assuming there is a way to create a detailed log of all system settings and installed apps for the programming maemo people here to look at.

does the phone application layer generate traces of everything it does?

People might also want to start checking the logs with their operators, mine updates daily at least and I can see all calls I've made.

Do these outgoing calls show up only there and not in the logs on the N900?

well since i returned the device that was having a problem of random reboots, and have been using a different one which doesn't have that problem at all or any-other problems; I have not found anybody that the device has tried reaching by itself.
