I'm not sure about other business model they've, but afaik huge license fee is required for setting up a server providing flash multimedia contents. The catch is that Adobe decides how much the license fee is, determined by your business and scale.

I know because I once helped a company setting up one. Later they drewback because Adobe was going to charge them more than they can bear.

Of course, there are opensource alternatives for setting up flash media servers, but still the clients are not opensourced, and controlled by Adobe. Slight change in client version might mean shutting down of service for many opensource flash media servers.

This is probably old but has anyone tested this?

Got the link from the Pandora forums. They got a flash 10.1 demo to run on the Pandora but it seems to be even worse than what's on maemo.

They deal directly with Microsoft for ActiveX/Internet Explorer, Google for Google Chrome, Mozilla for Firefox. So in essence, they'd have to deal directly with Nokia for MicroB.

How would they deal with them if Nokia isn't supporting it any more?

I think you fail to see that.

I really cannot se how people see this as Nokia's fault. Adobe has the software but doesn't want to release it. It is Adobe's decision and their fault.
No support from the vendor, the flash player will not come out. That's why Flash doesn't support older, non-supported versions of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

Do you guys really think that Nokia should be paying every software company out there just to get us users free software? I don't.
Nokia paid for Skype. Skype is free.

It is my understanding Nokia are still selling the N900, if they are how can they continue to sell it with Flash which is now out of date, so much for the device having the best internet experience!

I understand we will not get Flash 10 even if we decide to upgrade to the meego o/s. It owuld be interesting to know just hom much Adobe are trying to chage Nokia for use of Flash 10.

Quite easily, honestly. They're selling Android phones with 2.1, right? It doesn't support Flash 10.1 either. The selling of the phones with Flash 9.x is commonplace. It's the update that's actually quote "odd" - not many phones received Flash updates in the past.

To be honest, MicroB delivers the "best internet experience"... it reacts just like I would expect a desktop to react to websites, et al.

Or... we'll get Flash 10.1 on the N900 if some enterprising soul backports it. All of this talk about what Adobe "charges" is unverified.

That is not true. They certainly could OPTIMIZE it for MicroB (and probably need Nokia's help to do that) but there is absolutely totally nothing preventing them releasing a just-as-generic Linux ARM build that would work with ANY browser using the NSplugin API. That's something completely unrelated to Nokia, Maemo, the N900, etc. Just. Give. Me. A. Bloody. Generic. ARM. Linux. Build. And. Not. Point. Fingers. Thank. You.

I am just about to pick up an HTC Wildifire for the wife and I undertand that will be upgradable soon to 2.2, this is a £200 phone, unlike the N900 which was sold for over twice as much. Surely a top of the range phone should be able to view most website for at least 12 months?

Assuming there is no Flash update this will probaly be my last Nokia.

stop blaming adobe its not them, nokia and adobe have a partnership. Nokia have flash 10.1 code so its them choosing what they want it on imo.
