I do find it pretty invaluable on the iPhone - I can search away, Playlist and leave those to sync while I have a shower before going out, etc.

Would be a nice to have on the N900.

I definitely think that offline mode would be very useful and convenient.. I will investigate e.g., methods of securing the audio data (in a similar fashion to the official Spotify client) when moving to modifying the library.

So then it was time for yet another QSpot update. The latest version (0.0.4-1) should now be available from the extras-devel repo and from the project garage page.. This version introduces the following features:

* Added Settings and About dialogs (accessible from the main playlist view),
* Possibility to change search (e.g., max tracks returned by search) and buffering related settings (e.g., buffer length and pre-track buffering state) via the Settings dialog.
* Added support for track pre-buffering (enabled by default), i.e., the buffering of following track in queue will start automatically while previous track is still playing. Track pre-buffering can be enabled / disabled via the Settings dialog.

In addition to the above, some other misc. fixes have also been included.

In the following version(s) I plan to introduce fixes / changes / optimizations to the underlying library, and GUI additions such as album and artist views.

I hope you will enjoy the new version!

Thanks for the effort - I commented on the yaspot thread about my problems with stuttering / freezing audio after a few minutes of playing and/or the device going to power saving mode.

Well, update on this:

qspot still does this sometimes when on WLAN connection, and does this with about the same frequency with my 3G work SIM that has 384kbps limit on it (actually a little bit faster according to various tests).

But now I acquired a new personal SIM with unlimited data rate - and everything works, no stuttering - no freezes with audio!

What is puzzling that both my work and personal SIM use the same network (although different virtual operator). So I figured that:

- My WiFi AP has issues with N900.
- My work SIM has issues with network (but it works with N97 and the official Spotify client just fine what causes this on N900 is still a mystery - I have a few guesses...)
- My personal SIM with unlimited data rate solved problem - why? Well, I'm not a 3G network engineer nor libspotify/Maemo developer...

Qspot still crashes from time to time (not related to audio but some actions just suddenly kill the application) - I'll try to gather repetative cases and will help otherwise as good as I can - because having active developer also interested in bugs is a good thing to feed

So thanks again.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I do indeed appreciate feedback about any problems / bugs with QSpot, as well as information about the steps etc. leading to the manifesting of the problems.. The problem with audio stuttering seems very strange indeed, especially if the use of a different SIM / virtual operator resolves the problem. I have myself used QSpot with several different WLAN connections / access points, as well as with a 384kbps 3G connection, and I have only on very few occasions experienced stuttering. This is also something that could be investigated further.

Crashes can indeed occur with QSpot, most of them is related to libopenspotify library (internal synchronization issues), and these are currently high priority on my todo list..

Hello, I installed QSpot and now it is playing songs from my playlists on background while I'm writing this reply. Client seems to work fast at least with wifi.

Also searching of the songs and sorting by the fields functions are very fast.

Few notes when I tested basic features. If I start N900 media player QSpot continue playing song on background but media player takes control from audio output. If possible it would be nice if QSpot would pause playing while some other application takes the audio control.

Another issue is missing support for long pressed keys which came with pr 1.2 firmware.

If I use genre search I need to keep shift pressed while typing first letter because word start automatically with capital letter in search field.

Thank you for your post, I am happy to hear that you are happy with QSpot..

I will look into the issue with pausing of audio when some other app takes audio output control, I am sure it will be possible to add this. The initial capital letter is an issue with all input fields in QSpot, and I will also look into this one, along with long press support. How would you like the long press functions to be used in QSpot, i.e., for what type of operations?

Thanks for your feedback, it is very appreciated.. I will look into the possibility of adding such a search option.

A new version (0.0.4-3) of QSpot is now available from the repository and garage project page.. Summary of changes:

* Added possibility to sort track view by most popular (accessible from the Track View menubar).
* Minor fixes/additions (e.g., auto-capitalization of initial letter in UserID and Search input fields disabled; added appmanager icon).

This version also required a change to the library, so the dependencies have also been updated. I will next have to consider whether the library should be integrated into QSpot itself, or as a shared library as is the case now (as the library optimizations might require changes to the api interface, which is currently compatible with the official spotify library).
