From where I stand nokia is completely ignoring us and so are you as long as some points aren't clearly and loudly being made. I don't care about blog posts. What I do care about is direct communication.

All I see is letters and posts but I don't see anyone from nokia actually ever answering.

What more is there to say we have come to beg them to open-source code so that we can do the job ourselves, instead of actually having the support any expensive device like N900 benefits of.

What we have here is failure to communicate and lack of common sense from nokia.
Now I'm confused. You first accuse the council (or "council") of inactivity, now you're (correctly) seeing the problem as lying in Nokia's court? Can I assume you now recognize WE are doing what's within the limit of our "power"?

Bottom line: we're a conduit, not a solution engine. We make it easier for Nokia to engage in a community of thousands. But again, we can only do what we can do... and we're doing it. Constantly.

I simply don't think "we" are reaching them or even trying hard enough.

When is the last time nokia even moved a finger to help someone over here out?

To be fair, Nokia did take me to hospital once.
They moved my finger out of their door first.

If you commit to maintaining a repository which contains backported fixes, organise testing and ask for official council blessing, you can have it.

I was a big proponent (and user) of hrw's modest fixes repository because it scratched an itch. As Texrat says above though, we're not a "solution engine" (not sure if that's a pretentious term or not, but I like it ;-)). We'll try and make sure two people working on the same thing are aware of each other, and will put you in contact with people in Nokia if they can make insignificant changes (from their point of view) which would massively help your project.

But if you want something doing, pull your finger out and do it. If you want help, we'll help you (in any way we can) and/or help you ask for help.

As for the council not doing anything, can anyone who got sponsored to the Amsterdam summit please send me a cheque covering their travel and accommodation costs?

Anyone who's on the N900 device queue, we'll have those back too. I can stick them on eBay and use them to pay for the time we've invested in this platform and community.

We'll also stop working to trying to ease the mess of Qt in Extras; the MyNokia fiasco and trying to ensure a continuity of service and developer path to MeeGo.

I think all the anger here is mostly caused by Nokia's lack of communication.

At this point I would be happy with a "No, we're not doing that". At least I know what will happen.

We know nothing. We don't know if USB OTG will ever work, if Nokia plan to provide the flash plugin, if Ovi Maps will ever be upgraded, if PR 1.3 will ever come...

I don't feel the particular need for any of those. I am perfectly happy as I am. But I do feel angry sometimes at how Nokia say absolutely nothing regarding these matters. Sure our complaints are always passed on to the appropriate personnel...and then nothing.

I just wish I'd have a definite yes or no.

Specific suggestions welcome.

And again: don't blame the messenger.

Having employees that cant speak their mind is like having a wife in Hijab. You have full control but no real flow of feelings/information/creativeness. What do you want?

USB OTG was, is and always will be an official "no" from Nokia for the n900. I can find URLs if I have to, but please just believe me. Nokia failed USB OTG compliance and now it's too late. There will not be a chance to recertify the n900. It will officially always be just a USB peripheral device. Unofficially, host mode is still pending.
