so here is what i have, if you would please coach me, it would be much appreciated.

a cellular number
a google voice account
a skype account

here is what i would like to have happen. (note that i do not care about incoming calls to google, but only need it to mask my outbound calls with a different number and also use the google voice voicemail. while only using the data network)

to have my voicemail use the google voice system rather then tmobile. (so i *400*1408xxxxxxx# and it set that. so no problem on that)

to allow for me to start a call with google voice and have it be a total data call. so my guess is that i have to have the google voice set up to actually "call" my skype number, and then google voice will also call the other party i chose?! therefore actually being a skype call on the data network with google being the mediator/connector?
Your description is correct. Tell GV to call you back on your skype number and once you pick up on Skype, GV will dial the other side.
This way means that the other side will see your GV number on their caller ID.

This feature is going to be added to GV settings "soon" - I don't know when. Right now, for text messages, GV gives the option of using the caller ID of your GV number or the caller ID of one of your forwarding phones.

I'm in pretty much the same boat regarding pbxes.com - not sure what it achieves and how it will help me.

sh$T....ipkall wants some hostname/ip. dont have that. i thought if i just signup, it would give me a number?

and here is sipgate
Thank you for your interest in sipgate!

Due to the increased volume of new registrations within the last few weeks, we have unfortunately ran out of free numbers in your area and we are currently not able to offer you any alternative free phone number at the moment.
We have ordered a new batch of numbers which will be made available very soon but I'm afraid I can't give you a exact time frame for this yet. Follow us on twitter and we will let you know when it will be possible to sign-up for an account with us again.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this.

Sipgate has been showing that error message from at least the day when Google announced that Gizmo5 accounts are set for closure on April 3rd.

There are some other sip providers out there that give free incoming calls and numbers. I remember seeing some threads on t.m.o. that gave some of these options when Gizmo5 shutdown news came along.

So, it's not the IPKall that You need to configure in SIP account on ur n900, but the pbxes.
So click a new sip account,
then enter this:
adress: ceroberts75.com (or whatever you receveid from pbxes.)
password is the one from pbxes also.
Then go advanced and untick the box for using it for calls,
put in ur user name: ceroberts75.com(I am actually not sure if that's what pbxes gave you)
Proxy outgoing should be in the mail that u have received from IPkall(...SIP Proxy:blabalbla...)
and leave everything else untouched.
Port doesn't matter

SO my SIP is iptel.org and my settings of the SIP account look like this:
adress: alfredtessman@iptel.org
password: my password from iptel.org
advanced-
unticked for outgoing calls
username: alfredtessman
Proxy:sip.iptel.org

That's it. Now You also have to set ur GV to transfer calls to ur IPKall number. That way, after smbd calls ur GV number you will receice a call on this SIP account, so stay online with this one.

alfred,

thank you for that. not sure why you have to have both. i know i must be frustrating you guys. :/

it will not sign in.

so without the ipkall (because i am not sure why they would both work with mixed settings as above)

pbxes
address:ceroberts75@pbxes.org
password: my password from the pbxes.com website
advanced-
unticked "Use for telephone numbers"
user Name: ceroberts75-200 (because it is an extension from the pbxes website
outbound proxy: SIP/ceroberts75-200 (this is what shows on my settings online.)

not sure how to get google to forward to that though as it only will forward to phone numbers...which is proly why the ipkall needs to be used.

so if there is a way to bypass the pbxes and just use the ipkall, i think that would eliminate some hastle.

in any case, after setting all of this, it will not sign in..
