i did an "apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr" which seems
to solve the issue i had. version is now: 3.2010.02-08. thanx.

Illegal? I find this somewhat hard to believe. For instance Orange are the only operator to support ALS in the UK - does that mean the other operators are breaking the law by disabling this feature in their phones? Do you have a reference for this law?

bbc iplayer already works(in a way). Through the web gizmo. just go to bbc, look for something where you can click watch now or listen again, and you can watch stuff on it. looks stuttery and lags at first, but just pause it then click open in new window icon and it works perfectly. I managed to watch QI last week about 30 mins after it was on live. It also works for listening to the bbc radio listen again things.

On another note I was about to flash my n900, when I saw there wa an update looming, to clear out the rootfs of any stray extras -devel files that might be on there. (I am convinced, even though I have un-installed, that there are still files on there that haven't gone). So now I will wait and see what happens with the update. ..... I am right in thinking that flashing will basically wipe rootfs, then start from scratch installing the firmware, leaving only thaat on there? Then it's a caase of installing whatever you want.
I will definitely then make a restore point before dabbling in testing and devel again.
