Doh, I'm a dolt. I mentioned in a previous post that the Bell Galaxy Tab would cost $649.

http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/11/03/be...ber-16th-2010/

This is the one that I'm going to buy. It's the cheaper price on the [unconfirmed] superior network. If the usage plan is like that of the iPad, then the data rates will be identical to that of Rogers.

Congrats, Bell. You win..... pending a formal investigation into your network performance...

Great review! Rather than playing the fanboy, he gave a nice honest account of the Tab's strengths weaknesses. I'm glad to hear in the end that it's a solid all-around device.

I'm really glad to read about the fantastic battery life that the Tab offers! I'm also glad that there are no heat problems as certain other (fanboyish) reviews have mentioned.

For most this device is a luxury compliment to their tech arsenal. To me, it's the first 'smart' device apart from a computer that I will have owned, and will be a very important device.

It's interesting to hear that iPad owners find themselves more frequently reaching for the Tab for surfing/reading/etc. It seems that the 7" form-factor is the sweet spot.

Spoiler: the Galaxy Tab wins! YA! Add protection to its list of features. See?! It is the ultimate convergence device .

Quite a bit of new Tab related news.

First, the Blackberry playbook will be under $500. Very very cheap compared to the Tab but as far as I am aware it does not have 3G so that is one reason to explain the price difference. Also bear in mind that blackberry has the most boring operating system ever altough from what I hear the playbook is quite different.

Secondly, a possible 10 inch Tab may be appearing sometime.

Last, and certainly not least a picture of 7 inch Tab with Super Amoled display.

The BB Playbook looks really nice, but the closed OS kills it for me personally. I think it's good for fans of BB and early adopters, and shows promise! At $499 it would cost exactly what the iPad/Galaxy Tab with no 3G costs.

The Galaxy Tab 10 (coined) has been announced, and fills the void of those looking for a larger display. The SAMOLED Galaxy Tab 7" would be simply lustworthy. Here's hoping that it ships with Samsungs Orion SoC -- it promises to give Tegra good competition!

The next tablet that I buy will need to be able to replace my netbook for good (external keyboard of some sort)! I will settle for no less than being able to run Linux (Ubuntu), and all of the other benefits that the Tab has currently.

Here's a video showing Opera Mobile running on the Galaxy Tab!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_CqqGtH6Jg

It's very SMOOOOOOTH! Worth watching.

The video also shows other things:
1) Launcher pro on the Tab works perfectly (and is 100% smooth)
2) Google Earth runs very well
3) Gameloft's Modern Warfare and Asphalt work very well

To me, the Galaxy Tab is nearly perfect. However if I had to prove upon it, I would include:
- PDMI dock on the bottom
- Tegra 2 CPU/GPU SoC
- at least 5MP camera on the back

What would you change?

It would have been more convincing it he hadn't had a screen protector on the Tab. I'd like to know how the screen would have handled the impact without the protector taking.the initial impact.
