Actually that drunk Gawker kid got pretty much pwned

And maybe a lot more people are buying iStuff now because they don't want 'porn' apps.
Some free advertisement again.

If I'm wrong: could be a big chance for Nokia: concentrate on porn apps to get those 80%.
(even if you're not a swedish company)

Wait for the N900 Black Rubber Edition

Apple’s three year campaign to get content producers to shift from Flash to H.264 has been largely successful and is now at a tipping point. You can now view ‘most’ video on the web on H.264.

That means you can watch most Internet video on AppleTV over AirPlay. The day AppleTV is released, you’ll be able to watch free SD clips of shows that appear on ComedyCentral.com like the Daily Show and Colbert Report via Airplay. You theoretially should be able to watch Hulu Plus so long as it is encoded in H.264 (and doesn’t get blocked once the networks figure out what Apple has done here).
They may be closer to modular computing than the rest, when this widget is released.

Well here are my thoughts.
  • The Open Arguement - First of all Steve Jobs shouldn't be giving anyone a lecture on openness and at least Adobe doesn't make it so your content has to be approved by them.
  • The performance issue - well I'm running flash on my IBM Thinkpad T42 (currently running Ubuntu) without problems and all my friends who have Macs have no problems running it. There are also JavaScript and CSS heavy websites that run very slow but should we ban them? The thing is whenever I have tried to get HTML5 apps running on my PC they all crash more frequently and use more CPU than Flash (keep in mind I'm testing using the latest build of Firefox on Ubuntu 10.04)
  • Battery Life - Well I have never gotten good battery life playing video or games a mobile device so why should flash be any different?
The Full Web - Well you shouldn't expect the entire Internet to switch from Flash, Java, and Silverlight to HTML5 just because your idevice can't play it. One platform that is controlled by one company and is only available on the companies devices is going to be able to match the content on the Internet.
  • The Mobility Argument - Well as for the dropdown argument I agree that wasn't optimized for touchscreen handheld devices, but neither were websites written in JavaScript that also have dropdown menus so now should we ban JavaScript? If drop down menus aren't optimized for touch then lets get developers to optimize there websites for touch shall we. for those people"uh flash have never really been on mobile devices". WRONG!! My PSP had full flash 6 since 2005, most mobile phones have an implementation called Flash lite which can play a good amount of flash content, Nokia Internet Tablets have been able to run full flash since 2005, Archos Internet Tablets have had full flash 8 and Flash 9 in the past, and Android devices now have Flash 10.1.
Whether Flash is open or closed, the greatest thing since sliced bread or whether it the most evil crap ever, Flash isn't just going go away. That is the truth whether you like it or not. I think if people don't like flash then don't install it or if you want it install people should have a Choice, but then again that violates Apple's design policy which is to insure that you have as little choice as possible to help the user experience.

No, it won't just vanish. It must be forced out. Otherwise we end up in a different version of the hell that was IE6 dependency.

I don't like Flash because it's proprietary, which is a problem in that it has left N900 users in the lurch, and it's slow as hell. And such massive dependency on something proprietary like Flash just puts what it means to have access to the "Web" in Adobe's pocket, which is as bad, if not worse, than it being in Microsofts.

Why should Flash be forced out, if you don't want use it don't install. If you don't want to develop using flash then develop using Java or Silverlight. People seem to think Adobe is forcing you to develop with flash or to view well you don't have to. Doing stuff like video streaming or playing games on handheld device has always been for a long period of time, dissatisfying. Well if Flash is proprietary that's Adobe choice because they developed the software. Arguments against Flash aren't argument in favor of HTML5 there are many HTML5 games/applications that require courser or Keyboard input. HTML5 usually runs just a slow and crashes as much as Flash if not more.

If I don't install it, suddenly I'm denied access to a huge amount of content on the web. It reminds me of 2002-2007, when sites would block and deny access to non-IE browsers.

This has nothing to do with what I am developing with, but what I encounter when browsing the web.

Gaming was always satisfying on the Gameboy portables. Video streaming isn't dissatisfying, but new.

Well sure, no argument there.

Arguments against Flash aren't argument in favor of HTML5 there are many HTML5 games/applications that require courser or Keyboard input.
What? That's a completely irrelevant point.

HTML5 usually runs just a slow and crashes as much as Flash if not more.
Except that with browsers like Chromium and Firefox, not only are they open source but they can be fixed and redeployed much faster than "whenever Adobe feels like it" or better, "without having to negotiate royalties with Adobe over it."
