python 2.7.3 as default
Also pyside in repository. THP has already ported gpodder to sailfish using pyside+QML.

What added benefits will an updated SDK using Qt Quick 2 and Qt5 bring? Will it make porting applications easier? Will it make things faster/smoother or will it mostly add benefits for Jolla custom UI?

Exactly that's the problem. The Mer VM cannot see it if it's on another partition.

Obviously for those already onboard, this is of no use to you.
However if you are new to programming or are just seeking some guidance or refresher training in Qt/QML you may be insterested to know that people involved with Maemo/MeeGo didn't all move to Jolla...
Sotiris Makrygiannis is co-founder and CEO of Eliademy (.com) which provides an online and open learning environment.
they are also on FB for those that do that sort of thing.
community suggestions were raised, after the initial Sailfish SDK release, asking if they would consider hosting on-line tutorials for Jolla, giving instruction and training for those wishing to get started in programming for Sailfish.
Registration is quick and easy and you may find something there that can help you get started.
You can touch base with them via twitter @eliademy. they are friendly and keen to assist.
Good luck
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
