video_encoder field is for what?
It's for the venc -parameter, you can use it to pass arguments to ffmpeg/x264.

I kinda want it to be that way, just like I guess your doing with width/height ?
Yes, that's how it works, empty parameters aren't passed to vlc.

VLC is started when Knots is started and then I command it via telnet. It doesn't print out any info, but you can use telnet for it. Just start a stream, open cmd and run:

Code:
telnet localhost 4212
(password is knots)
show
That should show you the transcode-line you are looking for.

thanks again ukki.
That requires changes to client. You shouldn't need pause though, it should resume where you left off. And I'd need to pause the streaming too and then resuming requires mplayer restart anyways so I don't want to add it. But I can add support for most other key commands.

Changes you requested are now in git, also an ability to change the transcoding profile from the client is now possible.

I don't have a paypal, so unfortunately you get to keep your money. I appreciate the gesture though. Knots name was just a project name (comes from my real life nickname), but I couldn't come up with a better one. I changed the rewrite name to Knots 2 so you can keep both versions installed.

Everyones least favorite media streaming app is back with a new version. Check the first post for a short changelog. Client should appear in extras-devel soon. Please update your server too and remove your old database before starting the server. OS X and Linux users can run the following command in terminal:

Code:
rm ~/.config/kserver/kserver.db
As always, Windows server is untested, so please report back if something doesn't work like in previous version. If no big issues appear, I'll promote the client to extras. Happy streaming.

How can you even get music to add?
I've added directories, but it says there is no media.

Did you update the collection after adding the paths? That button is visible if both vlc and ffmpeg paths are filled in the settings.

What exactly is the right path for FFmpeg?

And now it's giving me an Internal Server error... with "No such file or directory - file"

Sorry, I think there's regression in the Windows server and it doesn't detect ffmpeg automatically anymore. So do this: place the knots dir on your c:\ and start the server. Go into settings and put this to ffmpeg path:

c:/knots/win32/ffmpeg.exe

and save the settings. Then you should be able to scan your paths.

Anyone have issues with the Knots 2 client stopping the streaming video about every 8 minutes? I can stream internet radio with the built in media player with out dropping but when watching a show in Knots every 8 minutes or so the show stops playing and I have to click play to continue again.
