I trust Nokia to release another science project Linux device. That's what they seem to be saying about this orphan Meego device, and I trust them enough to not buy it.

EDIT: If Aava or some other small manufacturer manages to get something out, I'll propably buy Meego device. This new OEM Nokia and it's products just don't exicite me enough to waste 500+ euros on their products.

Will be waiting Samsung Galaxy S2 (1 GHz dual-core, 1 GB RAM) with Meego+Bada+Dalvik.

But yes, would be nice if Nokia would pleasantly suprise us all.

Hmmm...long time ago? There wasn't 1 GHz A9 ARMs then (like Samsung Galaxy S2 has)? What about RAM? With 512 MB, it wouldn't sell enough anymore.

If I recall, the Aava guys have tried to wrap together a mobile phone concept for ages, i.e. way before Meego.

I trust Nokia to make a good quality handset actually.
If I will be getting the last maemo/meego device depends very much on all the standard considerations: price, hardware specs, availability date and software.
I always buy my phones based on the current software. And considering Nokia's recent Windows phone plans that seems to be the best advise to give to anybody. Don't be tempted to pay more for a device because of promised software updates.
Inform yourself about what a product currently can do, what known bugs you may have to deal with and the currently available third-party applications. Base your decision on that.
Phone manufacturers in general don't have a good reputation when it comes to updates for phones. Even Apple: they do provide updates, but often there are issues with older models. Updates for Nokia phones are always late, and SE and Samsung are very vague about release dates of updates.

If an updated N900 was available now (with galaxy S/iPhone 4 specs), I think they could sell it for something like 400 euros, and I would probably buy it.

I'll buy it if it motivates me like the N900 did, which has nearly met all the expectations I placed on it. Certainly I would have preferred all of components to be able to be controlled by open sourced software, but the N900 was the most open featurefull device that I could find. Until it came along I never even considered carrying anything but a dumbphone.

Honestly, I don't care a hoot about Ovi, or Android stores, or Window's marketplaces. I'd never buy anything from any of them anyway. I don't mind shelling out good money for good hardware as long as I'm free to use the hardware I purchase as I see fit.

That would be nice, but unlikely. What is happening is:
Low range to mid range = S40
Mid range to high range incl business = WP
Geek = N950 and that's it.

I just hope they haven't discarded the HW keyboard.

Still got well about 15 months before I am eligible for an upgrade from my Phone operator (the N900 is on a contract), so there is no panic.

If Nokia release a N900 sucessor based on some variant of Maemo/Meego and it was available on contract, then I would be very very interested. My feeling is that support would be limited from Nokia, but community support would probably be upto the fine standards so far from here.

I would be sorely disappointed if we lost the hardware features which make the current device what it is. what other device out there has a similar combination. The key features for me are hardware keyboard decent camera, and a microsd slot.
