Thanks for working on this. Have you tried adding a destination by typing in a street address? imo, that's the most critical feature missing from the old version--i.e. fabretti's 0313 deb.

Hi, I heard my name :-)

I have just finished coding and testing auto start/stop of gpsd on Maemo for Navit. It should be in the Trunk sources in a few days. Also adding debian packaging rules so it is easier for others to contribute enhancements for the N8x0 series. I will do an AutoInstall file next.

The other Maemo specific addition since Alfredi's version is Full Screen, Zoom in and Zoom out buttons work. This was done by 'gnunux' for an older version of Navit.

Now that this part is done I can actually try using it :-)

Thanks, adding this stuff to the main tree will mean less patching for us

Is there a patch somewhere for this and the other Hildonisation parts which are not in the Navit trunk?

Do you plan to release some packages from svn (svn seems to be quite active and it would be nice to know what you Navit devs are planning)?

Cheers,

Simon

I plan to build a package once the code is in the Trunk. The code from 'gnunux' was put in svn for the Navit 0.0.4 release. But it was built for an older SDK so wouldn't compile anymore.
I tried contacting the person who was doing the new UI for N800 but no answer. That code is not in any branches that I could find.

I spent some time playing and just about managed to get something compiling and at least claiming it had done so with hildon stuff switched on. but I failed to figure out packaging (quite new to this) so I'm glad to hear that the debian packaging rules are being added to make life easier. I would really appreciate if someone could write down some reasonable instructions on obtaining latest svn, getting it build for n8*0 and packaging for install. That would make it really much easier to maybe contribute to the project.

As an aside I've started adding is_in tags to some of the places I go to in the uk to allow navits place search to find more places.

It would make a really nice Christmas present if someone made a deb available for latest navit for n810....

A Christmas present for some of you :-)
I added a Downloads page that includes:
1. Script to run configure.in for Navit on Maemo
2. Debian directory that simplifies building .deb packages from the Navit source tree.
3. a .deb file of Navit SVN 1843 (current trunk as of tonight) for you to try out.

See http://tech.visser-scully.ca for more info.

The deb file works fine, thanks
I've modified the navit.xml because there was some "/usr/share/navit/maps/*.xml" not found, and also to add the map I've put, grabbed from downloads.cloudmade.com

The buttons are only big if navit is loaded from root, is it normal ?

Mnn, hadn't noticed the button size change. I'll try to figure that out. I am thinking of working on the Internal gui to Hildon-ize it. Presently the + - and full screen buttons work. It would be nice to free up more screen space for map, and maybe move a few things to OSD buttons.

if you run as root (using ssh?) then gpsbt won't work. It won't run if you are root.

the xml warning is benign, there is a feature now that you can split the config file into pieces. See http://wiki.navit-project.org/index....nclude.2FXPath for some semi-cryptic (to me at least) information on this.

thank you Gerritv!! new package installed nicely, I played with it a little and drove to visit family with it running.
after christmas I plan to try and get my enviroment set for compilation as there are a few things I'd life to figure out..

the osd info is way to small to read whilst driving, maybe I've missed the config for font size...will investigate
with 'internal' mode there seems to be no way to exit the menu screens...odly this was fine whe running on my ubuntu system.
search didn't seem to work at all, again that works ok on ubuntu build so will try to find out what's going on.

I ran it for sa while with 'follow=1' which is what I'd like whilst driving, but it struglled to keep up, so I would likke to investigate performance options. maybe some things in map drawing can be ignored in favour of speed..

If I can figure out how, I would change the info display to show in BIG text the road I'm on, the road I turn onto next. the speedlimit on this road (if known) in addition to the osd info availiable, but as I said I'd like it all much bigger to see whilst driving.

overall I'm happy that navit is being worked on, and i I can figure out how to help improve it I will. but for nows xmass is in the way.
happy xmass everyone..
and thanks again gerritv
