And a 3D interactive interface is distant-future-magical; how does it know when you're "touching" something and when you're just "passing through"? etc, etc...
Stereoscopic cameras tracking hand motion, IR sensor lines. Certainly possible, I think there are certainly less believable aspects of the movie

Actually the only aspect I get hung up on (and with the comic as well) has to do with fuel for the jet boots. But again, I just suspend disbelief and enjoy the fictional ride...

in the movie, i assumed the boots were repulser thrusters not chemical fueled....as evidenced by the line that the mark 1 chestpiece was never designed for sustained flight.

Yes, that and the fact that he must have very thin forearms to fit all those little missiles inside his gauntlets (or am I mis-remembering....?)

You know what it is? Any movie that dares to show computer interfaces better do a damn good job of making it believable, otherwise I get cheezed off. Not as far off as you might think:

Infrared sensors could do a "best guess" just like touchscreens in figuring out where you are touching.

I also got hung up on the Fuel for the Boots .. but like Texrat - if it didn't make sense I just sat back and said "now wouldn't THAT be cool."

Heheh, I did it, I got you all confessing to having "oh come on" moments in these types of films.

Now if we could only get you to understand that "oh come on" moments don't have to ruin the enjoyment.

"ruin" is too strong a word. I said I thought it was "ok"; a "good" movie of this type lets me stay immersed in the alternate reality without jarring me out on a regular basis.
