No, Tim, you're reading the poll wrong. Yes, the poll shows that some people like the new design. I'm happy for them. I'm glad that, as you say, you don't get a headache. But since Penguinbait is asking for an option, and the poll shows there are people who both like and dislike the design, it supports Penguinbait's request, not your apparent insistence on a one-size-fits-all solution.

As for requesting participation for desired changes, not everyone is a web designer. There is more than one way to participate, and few are better examples of that than Penguinbait. Please see this other post of mine. Besides, what Penguinbait is asking for (a) already exists and (b) wouldn't hurt the aspirations of the new design's supporters. Please see my post on that, too.

The old theme will not work on this current version of vBulletin.

Maybe if all this information was made available up front, all in one place, and preferably beforehand, we would not be having all this strife.

Apparently Reggie didn't foresee the immaturity that many members of this forum apparently possess.

Considering the number of people who have issues, and the fact that at least some of the rationales would seem to be valid (e.g. for some people the color scheme actually hurts their eyes), possibly the immaturity is on the part of those who cannot realize that a mistake has been made, however inadvertently.

That's a snide, entirely uncalled for response.

Personally I have a hard time be leaving people can't read a site that is black on white 90%+ of the sites our there are Black on White or Dark Test on light background. Google being one of the most visited sites in the world in black on white.

Thanks. I find that a lot more palatable as a response than The creation of a Unified Look means that there can't be non-conforming options even though they would be seen only by those people who consciously chose to use them.

Are you saying it won't work even with a small amount of tweaking?

Next, if compatibility is the only problem, we ought to be able to have a Minimalistic Theme that looks approximately like what it looks like now, but with greater functionality than it currently exhibits. But you've said you're going to go for orange-on-white, etc. So "impracticality" (due to vBulletin constraints) appears to be an excuse, or not important, or just plain irrelevant, if you're going to go with a color-scheme etc. that many people have been objecting to.

So why don't you lay out the bottom line: Is it this notion that even the non-default options have to look like maemo.org?

It's a matter of "time spent." We don't hang out at google. We love it here! Can't ya feel it?
