It's interesting that they say that the mono speaker is the best they've ever seen (or heard ).

Also that the camera basically sucks right now. G1's still does- compared to a basic stand alone camera.

I am still surprised that no one talks about the low space for installed apps for their entire install base of Android devices. This is the unintended stealth growth stumper for Android.

Here's one popular gadget site that gets it:

Having read the Engadget review a few things are deal breakers based on hardware alone.

-Crappy photos and Video. My N95 would have to stay in my pocket based on the samples on Engadget.
-No lens Protector, again my N95 has this, and while they cocked it up on the N97, this has all been put right.
-What only SD card for storage. I needs 48GB and hopefully 64GB soon once 32GB Micro SD are available. My MP3 player would have to stay in my pocket as well.
-Keyboard non central due to d pad will be painful to use over the long run.
-No Kick Stand
-No Stylus (what do I do with that high res screen on certain
websites)
-Front facing camera?
-Mono speaker
-Availability of cheap spare batteries
Question marks would be
-Blutooth/Wifi quality and support?
-Battery Life?
-Infra red for remote control app?
-FM Transmitter/Receiver?

Yeah, it just looks like Moto was cheap this time (or always?), and the only thing they actually did was to order some OMAP:s, screens and some copies of Google's Android OS.

By the way, this thread should merge with another one with the same topic:

I think they were talking about that in the context of listening to phone conversations. I doubt it will hold a candle to an N900 playing music side by side.

MONO! That's awesome....now I can finally listen to my [very] old vinyl albums the way they were meant to be heard.

I've been suffering the abomination of 'stereo' sound for so long....thanks Droid!

If this is the real Kevin Dill, this is an actual (I think) Android dev member. Here is a cut from the thread in the link you kindly provided. Kevin's response seems interesting in good but mainly bad ways for obvious reasons.

We have a partial solution at this time to some of the Android storage woes. Remote file storage is available for the Android which emulates local storage for predominantly multimedia. We offer that service at Android Storage. We are working on technology and an app which will actually allow apps to be stored completely remote and then be “temped” to the phone via a stream and operated under a master app. That will be coming before spring. This changes the playing field and allows devices to fully take advantage of “virtually” unlimited app and storage memory with the improvements in 3G, 4G, and WIFI availability.

Kevin, glad to see you saw this article…I thought of your service immediately! I had no idea what a problem this could be until reading the article above.

Sounds good- if you do not mind waiting for the delay for the app to work or do not have Edge or GSM only.

Sorry Kevin, the logical change is to allow virtual space to the SD card- just as many rooted G1’s have proven.

In your defense though, perhaps that is your non-partial fix for 2010. I hope so, because you know the partial fix will not work long-term and only highlight the constraint.

Sounds to me you have given evil Apple their next add campaign theme- iPhone has app space and Android doint’ (spelled on purpose)

UPDATE: I guess apps 2 SD might not be coming to Android, since on Droid, you have to remove the battery to get to the SD card!!

Reminds me of my old N-Gage days.
