Does this make sense? You could use the totals graph if it showed the "third" type of expenses as described.
hi Volt,
sorry I couldnt get back earlier, since I was busy with something else.
As discussed this does seem to be a good usecase to have for Buddy.
I will be giving it a serious thought and will report back to continue the discussion before implementing it since it seems to be a major feature.

Thanks for your feedback.

Neat! I'll take a look at the windows version as soon as I find time. I fully understand that things take time and other things take precedence!

Hello krk969,

Thanks for the program.
I have just started to test and try and I have read your tread.
I have some initial opinion. I think entering of expenses and budget should be as easy as possible. For that reason I would like to format the amount without decimals. I my opinion you don't survive because you monitor decimals. This could be a format option.

To ease entering amount I will also want to eliminate entering positive and negative figures. Now I understand both budget and expenses can be entered as positive or negative figures. I don't know why. Budget can be defined as only positive and expenses as only negative figures. The entering is now cumbersome and will be simplified. You activate the amount field and enter the amount without decimals. Quick and easy.

What do you think?

you could just enter any number without decimals, its supported, it will automatically be stored as <<yourvalue>>.00

*EDIT*
in fact I just remembered , I had removed any option for the user to enter a negative amount, you cannot do it in the app.

not really, there is no concept of a negative figure. all values to be entered as positive. Thats the whole point to have 2 different windows expenses/budgets.

Hope that clarifies.....

I am not sure.
1.On my Buddy for Expenses when you activate the amount field the cursor open I varies position. Sometimes it opens like this( Bh 0.00|) and then the field don't take input from keyboard. You actually have to push backspace 3 times and then it take input ( Bh 0|.00 ).
2.Sometimes the field open with the cursor like this ( Bh |0.00 ) and now it takes input. I enter 45 and get 450. The get the right amount I have to “Delete” one time before entering the the amount.
3.Some times the field open with the cursor like this ( Bh 0.|00 ) and don't take input. I have to backspace one time to be able to enter the correct amount.
4.I have used this “|” sign mark the position of the cursor.
5.The Budget side have exactly the same problem.

This was the reason for my idea of simpler input. Am I the only one on this problem?

To get this simplified the cursor must always open like this ( Bh 0|.00 ) to be able to just enter my amount and get it correct. I propose to delete ( 0.00 ) from the field.

I have PR 1.2 installed before I installed Buddy. No flashing, no over clocking done.

Hello buddy (developer)...

its really a great app fo my N900.. amazing... thanks for keeping it free version... i appreciate your efforts..

I would like to suggest enhancement so that it can also capture expense sharing as well..
i mean to say like I share expenses with my roommate. currently its not possible to account each one's share in terms of percentage or absolute amount for a particular expense.. will it be posible to incorporate this feature I guess it will add great value to Buddy...

regards,

Lav

Hi Lav

Thanks for your comments.
Just to understand it correctly, you wish to have user accounts in Buddy so you can have expenses/budgets per user on the same device ?
and you want to compare expenses between users ?
It would need a bit of changes including a database change for this, im not really sure how many users might use this
I assumed that only one person would use buddy on the device, Ive put the csv file exports to share between users/PC, and probably in a later date a way to share data via wifi.

However, if you make categories like food-John, food-Peter, food-XXX for each user then it would work right out of the box now, would that suffice ?

Hey krk969

Thanks for quick reply and taking time out of ur busy development and bug fixing schedule.. My intention of asking above mentioned functionality was to enable 'buddy' for recording shared expenses

to give an example

consider i have two frnds(Jack and Jill) and me for which I am recording all the expenses

following are the expenses items
INR 150 between Jack and Jill = for Hotel (spent by lav)
Calc: Jack -75 Jill -75 Lav +150

INR 300 between Jack Jill and Lav = For Travel (Spent by Jack)
Calc: Jack +100(-100+300) Jill -100 Lav -100

INR 500 Between Jill and Lav = For Clothes (Spent By Jill)
Calc: Jill +250(-250+500) Lav -250

Summary
Lav = -200(To be paid)
Jack = 125
Jill = 75

I hope this suggestion is not deviating from the core concept for Buddy....

regards,

Lav

yes , buddy does not solve the examples the way you listed.(sharing)
as I said in my previous post, perhaps you can consider using different category for each of your friend
for example food expenses for jack and jill can be
food_jack and food_jill and then track them like that, can't think of a better way than that at the moment....

*EDIT*
also dont assign any budget to those categories, then in the usage view you can see negative balances which will be the total you have spent for jack and jill seperately and the amount they owe you. Hope thats made it clearer...

Hello there, krk969!

First of all, thanks for your hard work - Buddy seems to be just what I was looking for, and I'm really looking forward to using it (coming from someone who's normally shying away from anything that has to do with finances and numbers ).

But right now I'm having problems actually giving it a try because of the German translation. While the application telling me to please register my matey gave me a good chuckle, most instances of the poor translation rather result in a big, fat question mark above my head.

I haven't found a setting to switch to a different locale yet - is there any way to do this without changing the locale of my device itself? If not, please consider this a feature request...

Also, while I have to admit that my business vocabulary is rather lacking (again, I'm a bit of a finance-o-phobic), I could still try to provide some native translation. I'd be happy to help out with that, all I'd need would be the English .ts file.

Again, thanks for providing what looks like a real high-quality application!
