We definitely use Google different. Within mere moments:

13 Million Nokia 5310
Nokia 5800 - 2.6 million in first quarter

Volumes of the high-end Nokia N95 were approximately 1.5 million units during the quarter. The device is now available in almost all markets, including the United States and China.
And that one came from here. All sites are Nokia owned or endorsed, if not from Nokia.com itself.

That break out for the N95 in 2007/2008 was standard and it's only pointless if you wish to keep your head in the sand or remain ignorant.

They used to do it, but now they won't do it for the N900 or any other Maemo device.

Now... with that, maybe now you'll see what I mean. Despite the first two being the 5310 and 5800, it's clear that Nokia can publish their sales numbers on individual phones.

Then in 2008/2009, they sorta changed to doing stuff like this:

We shipped almost 9 million Nokia Nseries and 3 million Nokia Eseries devices during the third quarter 2008.
Even that would be ok. Just break out the Maemo devices.

Oh, and one more thing I forgot:

IIRC it was Anssi Vanjoki who answered the question about the commercial success of the 770/N800 (right after the N810 had been introduced) with "Selling units wasn't the point."

I also recall having read (though I cannot find the link anymore, it was part of a research I did 1 year ago) that in the original business case for the 770, they expected to sell less than 3000 units. Worldwide.

You don't launch a product normally when you plan to sell 3000 units. Unless you want to achieve something else with it than making money in the short term.

If this is the case, though, it would really, really be unwise to officially tell how many/few devices you shipped. You would need to explain the whole strategy behind the business case then... and these strategies don't make good headlines. "Nokias Linux Tablet: Only 3000 sold" does make a good headline, and ruins the Maemo-brand forever.

So what would be the point in publishing such numbers if you don't want to sell huge volumes in the first place? You just cannot gain anything from it... Except telling HTCs and Samsungs of this world how well the market responds to some of your experimental products.

Consider now that for Nokia, the N900 still is an experimental device... I really don't see who would benefit from any official sales figure. - You might argue that software developers do? Because they would know how big the market is? They'll learn from their own sales figures.

And I'm glad you bought that nonsense. I won't accept it.

Allow me to use simpler terms here then... if they have posted their numbers in the past, why not now?

Expected and actualized are two different things. I'm sure you can appreciate that difference.

This is getting very old, very quick. You wish to continue down an "ignorance is bliss" and "Nokia said it didn't want to sell a lot"... then protest as heavily against the threads that haphazardly state that MeeGo will (hyperbole) outsell/kill/whatever any other product out there. I don't see you doing that.

Yet, in a real search for real numbers, ones based on fact not fan-fiction, you're against that?

That sir, is quite simply the oddest thing I have ever seen. Total unsinn.

Sales numbers are just that. Sales numbers. They are as much of a fact as that OMAP3 chip inside your beloved N900. It exists. Nokia isn't releasing that. You're content on not wondering about it; then do not go after people that are wondering about it.

You go your path, I'm still researching mine. And if it means that I will have to purchase Nokia stock - it's less than I pay for a 6 pack of good beer - I'll do it that way.

It definitely seems like having free thought and the ability to ask questions is too against the grain and frowned upon by you people.

I'd rather know than not know. Ignorance is not bliss. It's plain ignorance.

You know... nevermind. I see now that not knowing is better than knowing.

I've proven my point. I've shared links. Now, if any of you enterprising folks would care to meet me halfway - if you can - then explain to me exactly why the sales numbers don't mean anything to you? Because of the prior 770 or N800 statement?

That was 3 years ago. Let's find a more recent excuse.

I didn't follow Nokia business reports in the times of the N95... If that was standard then, thank you for your info.

About the "pointless" part: You do know what I called pointless. Thank you very much.

As they did for the N900. 100 000 in 5 weeks, 2.6 million in one quarter... they throw some numbers at you about an arbitrary timeframe. Well. Nice. But doesn't change my life as an owner of either the 5800 or the N900, does it?

You're obviously continuing to overlook things.

So be it. Show me the link to the official documents that stated those numbers.

It must have been nonsense, because they stopped the whole Maemo experiment right after the 770 was such a failure....

You're really acting as if you were entitled to get this information from Nokia....

You're acting like they've never stated their sales before.

If you wish to continue acting daft, do so on your own time. Acknowledge three things:
1. They've stated their sales before in the past and have so for years for many models.
2. I'm simply curious as to why they stopped.
3. You're arguing a point after I've proven my point, yet you've proven nothing.
Either show me proof of those links as I've done for you using actual Nokia.com or affiliated links or honestly explain to me why you've chosen to antagonize a person that's curious about something you've clearly shown no interest in past nor present.

As it stands, you're blissfully happy not knowing. I'm curious enough to ask questions. Care to share what's wrong with that as well while I'm asking?

Instead of obstinate opinion, take the hint from what I had done above; prove it.

You've proven nothing thus far. I've listed out links that shot down your "I didn't know they did it before" wasteful banter from earlier.

Waste my time no longer. Put up your proof. I'll wait. Address me only with that proof.

Thanks in advance. Official links only, btw. Follow my lead.

So they showed information about Symbian based phones.

They never showed information about Maemo devices.

Why they should start why the N900? I am curious about that as well. I don't think that it would do them any good.

I've stated it ad nauseum. I'm curious. But to have that curiosity needlessly met with rank antagonism is befuddling. Almost like it's an implicit rule to not ask about anything... just take what's given to you.

And... I can't live like that. Oh... went ahead bought some Nokia stock.
