Is there any way of knowing how many infraction points I have gotten? Knowing that would be a pre-warning before being banned...

When giving infraction points, an email is sent to the receiver with reasons for the points; you don't get banned out of nowhere

If the receiver disagrees with the points received he/she can bring it up with the mods stating his/her case. Also these points expire in 30days so its not as if you got points a few months ago and they come to haunt you today if you didn't receive any in the intervening period.

The forum rules are actually very much in favour of not handing out bans or long-term bans if you see the infraction points breakdown.

Let's put the anomalous case aside and see there have not actually been many bans due to the way the rules as well as the lax moderation that takes place.

When a moderator hands out infraction points he too has to give valid reasons to the others especially those higher up in the chain of command and its all recorded so you don't get one gung-ho mod spoiling things for everybody.

Even things such as deleting threads requires much thought so its a bit of an over-reaction to think bans etc are commonplace.

Hehe Even if somebody has complained about your posts, mods use their own heads before just blindly following the complaint

The "Report Post" button is thought to be just for spam or complains but its essentially a simple way to send a message to the mods of that sub-forum. It can be used to request for change of thread title for threads older than a year, request for merge threads in the event of duplicates etc

So even if somebody "reported" your post as a duplicate it doesn't mean you get infraction points for spamming; the moderator will decide for himself and just merge in the event of a duplicate thread or delete a duplicate post. If you carry on posting duplicates everywhere the moderator will inform you to keep your discussion to one thread at which point I'm sure most sane people understand not to go over-board and keep repeating their posts.

I think we should have an open list so all can see poples infraction points. Me and another user got 15 points for peranal attacks on each other a long time ago. Since then I've seen at least 100 simulare cases and a few much worse so infraction system is a lottory

Most infraction points without ban wins...

Seriously? So that some people see whoever is close to receiving a ban and they go and provoke the said person into committing something that gets him banned?

Dave999, when you have seen 100s of similar cases as what got you the ban for did you report the post(s) and ask for clarification or PM the administrator/mods?

Reggie used to be the Admin of TMO; there is a slight change in staff now with chemist being the only Administrator so to hark back to a long while ago is quite inefficient IMO.

I think I said something like "your head is filled with Icream sandwich if you think like that..." and he said somthing simular back to me

No, I would never report a user unless he/she REALLY really REALLY crossing the line, plus I think it is the target that should report and also decide how "hurt" he/she is...If the target explains that he/she is hurt and that the user crossed the line the issue is usually solved and the poster realise that he crossed "a" line. that is much better than infractions points.

Is that the kind of memebers we have here. Poeple trying to provoke other member? Well...if thats true, It sucks!

But if we have an open list we could have some kind of redeem system. Would be nice.

in life there is a need for argue and provoke other people. even the worlds today were build because of war.. why human get to the space? because of war. cold war exactly. if there is no arguing and provoking we cannot have an achievement. so there is a war in bussiness, normal life, office, with your wife/husband and even in this forum! this is normal. i would say just stop here... give and recieve forgiveness. thats why we all have god... to forgive us. and we should forgive other people too.. why hate is so much in our people nowadays? there is no need to change that and that rules. but there is a need to change our attitude and the way of our thinking.

sorry. for my bad bad bad english and being of topic.

I welcome open discussion, but this is ridiculous.
You hotheads should find yourselves a seperate irc channel and fight it out elsewhere, 'cause you guys are turning TMO into your personal battlefield.

I have left many communities 'cause of people the likes of woody and Estel, who turn a forum with great educational value into a complete mess.
What reason do I have to browse a forum wherein people only but argue to desperately pave their way to "internet victory", all for their precious little egos? None. We've got plenty of other (ruined) forums for that.
I gain nothing from your fight and as such, you diminish the value of maemo.org to me. Selfish as that may sound, it is the truth and the main reason why other positively contributing members choose to leave this community.
I have seen this forum drop to a new low first-hand, wherein people still ask for help to flash their devices despite the overwhelming amount of duplicate threads (thanks, moderators. Step it up, will ya?) and wherein active development on projects suddenly halt because of a lack of interest from intelligent members (e.g. allowing the N900 to run a different window manager).

If all participants of this discussion have any form of respect towards maemo.org and it's community, then they should resolve their differences elsewhere.
I don't care if it's by irc, pm, Skype or paper.
Screenshot the results in 2 months, post the image here and rejoice, but until then, I invite all involved to either contribute positively to Maemo or shut up.
Offensive as my post might be, it is nothing compared to the absolute filth you guys spew for us to see.
