I fear it MAY be an issue in mine, I'll have to double-check...
I vaguely recall such shenanigans with T$ (Telstra) in the past.
But that may have been yrs ago, before gov't bodies caught up.

I'm ready to bet a largish sum of AUD that it will not be a problem

I have never heard of that, neither have I ever bought a operator locked device.

So you saying the operators ****** with the device? Are you saying that operators lock it on a network level...Fantastic. The world get crazier every day.

It's rare in the the EU (think impossible nowadays?), but it does/has happened in other parts of the world.

I have "spam" the swedish OP:s on twitter saying: time for them WAKEUP and add Jollaphone as alternative.

So far one has atleast replyied me. I think its the only way. Those OP:s proabadly is feeded with cash from the bigplayers. But if users show some intrests in new companys like Jolla they hopefully listen. Ofcourse Jolla must do theyr job to but....

Yeah I haven't done that at all, but I don't really feel I should be wasting lots of my time doing that, that's Jolla's job.
I've let then know where I'm from & that I'm interested, maybe I will occasionally, & maybe I'll set-up an Aussie lobbying group of sorts ;-p
Maybe we should setup a template for that, so that everyone in their countries can set-up a similar "franchise" & get a grass roots movement etc going.

Crikey, bed time.....

Should be asleep now damn it...

Maybe Jolla should try to setup small-scale grass-roots NFP distribution rings in all countries via their Maemo/MeeGo et al fans?
Until such time as big telcos/resellers & retailers start to bite, then they could get those rings to ease-off, so they don't diffuse interest.
To be more explanatory, I mean individual(s) or team(s) would sell dozens (possibly more) of the phones /month to the public.
This would be done on a informal basis, & all proceeds from sales would go back to Jolla, they would take no cut...*
I'm not sure of the legalities of this in my own country, let alone the many others, it may not even be possible to register as a NFP.

It probably only need be done in countries where big telcos/resellers & wholesalers/retailers are persistently showing 0 interest.
If there's 1x of each of the following showing interest: telco, telco_reseller, wholesaler, & retailer, then x country could be scratched.
I imagine this would be tricky to do, as you can't trust everyone to behave ethically, but, it might just help stimulate things in the right way.
I guess you could have a more commercial model, but I think that could get messier, & harder for Jolla to extricate itself from LT.

Thoughts?

*Jolla could also have a method for determining a quota of free phones it gives to devs/public in x country each mth for x period

i don't think such scenario will happen...Definitely Jolla will support all major GSM/UMTS frequency bands, so can be used in all countries.....long time back India blocked many chinese handsets because of missing / fake IMEI. This was because of security reasons.......

I quoted before the exact feedback that I have got from Jolla CC. So at least first batch won't be available world wide, i believe.
