There's no evidence of video calls in PR 1.2 - only VoIP services get better video support.

This is my first Nokia phone in a number of years, if they drop support for it, I'll surely be buying from a different brand, for myself and for the people in my company, so I doubt how much Nokia will benefit. Also i believe that Nokia should keep us updated and well aware on whats happening regarding our phones and updates, rather than leaving us waiting and just speculating.
Another point is how do they expect to compete with Android and iPhone when they're not developing new applications, games, etc. for Maemo? and if they are developing them, still how do they expect to compete if they're moving at such a slow pace? Don't get me wrong, I love my N900, it's just I'm not satisfied with their service, Even messaging them for problems, support etc, they take ages to reply and then just reply telling me that they don't provide support for my location, then why do they sell them here?...
Nokia dropped the N78-3 like a hot rock. The last update for it in the US was 21.002 (10-03-09). Elsewhere in the world 30.0.015 was released to take care of the issues not addressed by and those issues created by 21.0. That was 13 months ago. The phone works okay as long as you don't run into one of the unfixed issues. The phone had been released five months when Nokiausa stopped selling it and less than a year when the last update arrived. That is what "not supported" looks like.

Nokia is continuing to support the N900 by updating Maemo now and releasing Meego in the future. The future looks bright for the Type RX-51, not the "dropped like a hot rock" treatment at all.

Would you go to someone's house as a guest, start whining and complaining, put your dirty shoes on the coffee table and demand you have things done your way? Go to one of the appropriate whinging threads instead if you want to complain.
Where does it say that I can't be critical of Maemo or the N900 in the "rule book"? And it's a phone so please don't start talking about culture!

The UI is already there. I haven't yet had the time to explore why the video button shows up when I call my phone from the Asterisk console (I misplace it pretty regularly and that's how I find it), but not on other SIP calls, even with video enabled softphones. It might be a codec negotiation thing.

Probably, but the news is that it is probably going to be available.
AFAIK, there have been cases where starting a video call from gtalk client does open a video conversation, so there is some sort of limited functionality already available. It would be better if we get an official and supported functionality though.

Wow, that was amazing I had that phone and I remember being really conflicted choosing between that and an E71. Two years later my wife's E71 is still getting updates whereas the N78 was left to languish in a bug infested state.
The current level of bug fixes and support and the promise of meego and QT support on the N900 is positively incomparable to that debacle

True. But if it's going to be released in 1-2-3... months....there is no reason to stay with N900... it was one of the decision making point - quick support from Maemo team. Now it feels like there is no development except couple of applications...

We still suffering from bugs everyday of delay in firmware. Any announcement would be nice, you know just to decide for yourself whether you ready to wait and stick to this OS or move on.
That's how you feel habibi, I live a different reality where everything is perfect (regarding Maemo)

I'm ready to speculate: tonight is the night when PR 1.2 would be available for download.

I have a feeling in my guts that I may be right (or could be the beans I had for lunch).

I had the similar feeling in my guts until I had some Ginger Ale and visited the "relaxing room". Now no more gut feeling. So I guess, PR 1.2 is not coming out tonight
