You tried reading?? Well, if you looked in the Biblle or the stock market reports, you probably didn't find much.

If you "tried reading" the overclocking docs on the Wiki, on the other hand, you should find tables that tell you what's going on.

What some techheads find frustrating is that there is no exact information on what your system will handle -- that's because there is no exact information for anyone, including the manufacturer. It's all based on a certain amount of guesswork, which is what overclocking itself is based on.

In the time it took you to be ironic you could have provided a link and helped someone instead of venting.

As for wiki, it was the first thing I read. If you mean the voltage tables, here they are:

LV
54 1.275V 900 MHz
ULV
54 1.275V 900 MHz
XLV
54 1.275V 900 MHz
IDEAL
54 1.275V 900 MHz

You can see I need more clarification. I see differences for standby, and for lower freq, but from a certain freq onwards they are identical. From 900 onwards, it's 54, 60, 72, 72 on all profiles.

I was wondering why people recommend various settings and why "try ideal" at 900 MHz when LV, ULV and XLV look identical.

That's either an EF2000 (Eurofighter Typhoon) or F22 (Raptor). Unless, of course, if you meant F22 would fight Europe, which makes an euro-fighter :)

Actually... my original Nokia battery doesn't work anymore and I think that might be due to overclocking. It doesn't charge via USB and when I put it in my phone it drops ALL my calls and the phone keeps giving me SIM card not inserted errors.

I assume you tried a full reflash? Did you drop it? It doesn't seem very intuitive to have OC damage charging.

Well running the n900 at full speed 1100 mhz and full internet load the battery heats up like crazy. and drains in minutes. so there is a good chance of frying it.

Im not sure but i think you cant fry the CPU... when it gets unstable it reboots far before damage can be done

So you are saying your N900 works fine with a different battery?

Well, it -may- be possible to fry batterys due to OCing; I read somewhere that the CPU's rated for 90C, but the battery's rated for only 60C. Above that, who knows.

If nothing else, running it that hot will greatly reduce the battery life, if not cause other problems.

Still, this means you should either:
1. Lower your OC when running it under full load for more than a minute.
2. Be prepared to replace your battery more often, or
3. Cry about it.

I think it is hard to kill you N900 by OCing because before it gets killed it will become unstabil.
So, every sane person (even the slightly insane persons running at 1150) will reduce the Overclocking if their device starts crashing.
Et viola - no fried CPU.

But it WILL shorten the Battery life, thats true.
The Battery has to deliver more power in a "hotter" environment.
Thats not healthy for those girly touchy LiIon thingies.
I managed to empty my Battery in about 3 Hours during a boring Meeting. That wont be Healthy for the Battery and is probably not within the spec.
But the Battery can be replaced, so nothing to worry about. (exept for Explosions wich may occure since aforementioned batteries may (not a high chance thought) fail epic)
