If it is somewhere, it (the IR led) must be in the top left corner where is the plastic window...

Perhaps there is a pen or screwdriver enclosed in the back end of the stylus?

All I know is that it flashes pretty colors.

Colors is right. My wife made me turn off that silly pulsating LED because it kept her awake at night. Fortunately, it can be disabled, but the pulsating makes you feel like you need to go build an ice fortress somewhere.

It turns a nice shade of red once you've established a video call.

What colors does it have?

Now could be a good time to ponder the question, Is infrared a color?

If anyone is interested, hooking up a normal IR LED to the headphone output is one way of controlling stuff. I know someone did it with an iPod [1]... but all you need is a device with a headphone output that can play back MP3s.

I wouldn't have said so, as it's not in the visible spectrum for human beings.

It's referred to as infra-red since it's below red (infra, latin for below) in the visible colour spectrum. You wouldn't be able to output infrared with a standard red LED due to the differences in wavelength between infrared and visible light.

Well, technically it is a color, just not one humans can see.

But you're right about the IR-- afaik no LED can be excited to the high frequency of infrared.

EDIT: man, I'm stupid in the morning. As Datapath correctly pointed out, UV is the high end, IR is the very low end. *sigh*
