I agree with vbrilon... I've had mine for a few days now and I can't really complain about anything functionally. Maybe the UI could use some polish, but other than that it just works. Especially good for a beta product. This product was more of a Google form of beta.

I asked about this and was told that there were no plans to permit local multicasting for the Internet Tablet.

Seems strange to me too. But the second part of the answer said they're working on allowing more than one remote connection.

according to their website, local discovery of the unit is being done as a udp broadcast. they don;t do things the "slingbox way". with slingbox, they seem to use the IP address for remote connections and you can directly connect to it even over the internet using DynDns.

<snip>
I believe you're right on with assessing how their "Locator/Finder Service" works. I'm an owner of the original Slingbox and thought it was nice that they provided a service like this for those with dynamic IP addresses.

However, one of my ISP accounts provides me with a static IP, so I configured my Slingbox to disable using their finder and provided my own static IP address and specified my own port number. I believe this method is inherently more secure and reliable.

I've discussed this issue with tech support at Hava and I guess they've at least filed it as a feature request (no response yet). I'd really like to be able to specify my own IP address and port number, rather than depend on a 3rd party (Hava's P2P service). As was mentioned earlier in this thread, a big concern should be that they go out of business and/or their P2P server blows up, leaving us all with useless Hava clients...

Hi all HAVA beta participants,

finally I've decided to purchase a "HAVA Wireless HD" with built in tuner.
It works pretty well here in Germany else I have had the usual setup problems with the wizard.
A standard web interface would be probably much more better but it's working.

-I wonder now if there is a newer version(greater v0.0.0.42) available?
-Did anybody get an additional mail with an update from HAVA?
-How many bugs did you sent to "HAVA-n8xx@monsoonmultimedia.com" and did you get a feedback on the mail?
-Is there a more active "N8x0 beta discussion" thread maybe in the Hava forum?

At the moment it looks like there is not much development/improvement ongoing.
@HAVASD: When could we expect a new client version for the N8x0?

By the way, how much current does your Hava box need and how much current does your bundled power supply deliver?

The "HAVA Wireless HD" needs 9V 2A according to the sticker on the device.
Well, the bundled power supply delivers only 9v 1A and gets pretty hot.
Is this something I must be worried about? Does anybody uses the box 24/7/365 without unplugging the power supply?

Greetz Sorenzo

PS: A lot of questions ... Sorry

I agree with you about the overheating. I've got a Hava Titanium here in the UK and the unit does get really hot after a couple of days. I tend to switch off the power every couple of days.
I'm worried about leaving the unit on for a lengthy period of time when I'm out of the house (eg on holiday for a week!)
Is this an issue exclusive to European users? I wonder what thoughts Hava have on this issue.
The N800 client is pretty solid, picture quality is good and signal rarely drops out. Agree though that we could be given some more news from Hava - seems to have gone all quiet in the last few weeks.

I decided to jump into the HAVA thing. There are 4 packages available. I am intended to go with the platinum. What is the difference in gold and platinum and titanium wrt to the N8x0 from your use? TIA, I would like to do it in the next couple hours.......kind of tire over a Saturday workday. I think the Titanium allows wifi connect to your TV source while the platinum required a cable, right? My TV source is NOT wifi, that means platinum is my only choice. The last question, I have not received any response from the beta program. Is there any difference in buying the thing from the myHAVA or should I check with the beta program one more time?

TIA,

bun

Component inputs. Personally, I find the widescreen of HD channels to be much better suited for the NIT than fullscreen, even though the quality isn't any different.

I am sorry, I am not following the discussion. I thought they ALL come with mini jack component input, that is what the ad said, right? So how does that differentiate which package to buy? TIA,

Hrm, I guess so, but I don't think the Gold's component is HD (480i). Wish they had a comparison table on the website. :\

The one on the bottom of the products page seems decent.
