Quitting programs is a problem. It seems nothing is mapped to the "home" button. The home button is like the tablet's switch button, its brings up alt-tab and stuff. The only way right now is just to keep clicking back until it closes. I usually open a new window, close the old one, then click back. Usually works.
Sadly, most of the apps are for the small screen of the G1, or at least a "tall" screen. Is there some way to flip the orientation, like the xRandR that maemo has?

Yup, browser only.
Also, looks like the google apps (Map, Gmail, Market, etc...) are not Open Source, so I don't think we are going to get them. Sigh....

You can ping a website (such as www.maemo.org) from your PC. Means: internet is up, DNS works from PC.
You are behind a NAT router. Means: internet cannot reach your NIT without forwarding. So we test it the other way around...
Can your NIT ping an external IP? Can your NIT ping a website?
Former no -> Stop, your NIT is not routed correct to the internet. Check if NAT is correct set up.
Former yes -> Good, your NIT is routed correctly to the internet.
Latter no -> Stop, your DNS is not correct set up. Check your /etc/resolv.conf for clues.
Latter also yes -> Your DNS works as well. It must be something else... try netcat/socat to www.maemo.org port 80.

I also tried updating resolv.conf but got permission denied. What user is the default user on android? Is there a way to su or sudo?

Hey Solca, it's me again-- I told ya I'd reflash, and this time, I got it working!
Attached to my post are logs from dmesg and logcat, respectively.
All I can get to is it trying to boot (with debug kernel) and getting to the NITdroid logo, then crashing and restarting over and over again until I start a shell. I do have R&D mode enabled, as well.

Okay, the possible cause for the not working kernel for 770 is probably that the LCD controller is not an Epson Blizzard (S1D13744/S1D13745), but a S1D13742 controller.
Luckily there's an OSS driver, I'll try to compile it.
EDIT: It compiles, but has wrong header and the configuration executable doesn't support 770... So does anyone know where to find S1D13742.h with defines for 770's LCD controller?
EDITx2: No need, its actually called hwa742 in the kernel config...
You could start compiling olders kernels (2.6.27, 2.6.26, ...) with the default config for N700 (n700_defconfig) until one works, you should apply to a stock kernel.org the corresponding OMAP patches.

Thx for all the N800 feedback, I'm looking into this.
For those that DNS doesn't work please try on ADB shell if this fix it:
# setprop net.dns1 <ip>
I'm too investigating the external SD card booting problem, hopefully with all this input we can have a new userspace soon with many fixes
