When did this forum get so bitter and angry?

Can everyone stop the arguing about who's doing what and what's not being done? If we continue to fight, everyone will end up leaving and then nothing will be done at all.

United we stand, divided we fall.

BME is in no way a blocker, we only need someone who could rewrite musb_hdrc.c so it can handle mode switching properly, any _SKILLED_ kernel hacker could do it.

That's what exactly he said. why can't you just try to reach him over email and talk to him, or just say thanx for program? no you need to discuss him, damn you people.

Stuff like that certainly could have played a role. The USB documents are well dated, so there should be no mystery there. It's been a while, but IIRC there was a chronology that reads like a Shakespearean tragedy. Here's a list of items that I think contributed to the final result, and please correct me for inaccuracies:
  • Like you said, the n900 was already designed, yet the Beageleboard seemed like the development hardware for a long time. I'm not sure that helped the USB issue, because, in the end, there were subtle USB hardware differences. If you're interested, search the Fremantle kernel source and changelog for all things USB. I found it kind of fascinating.
  • The EU mandated that all cell phones and small devices must charge through a USB port.
  • The USB OTG specs are complex and relatively new and possibly immature.
  • The USB charging specs are complex and relatively new and possibly immature.
  • The n900 was behind schedule.
  • USB certification is no laughing matter.
Sorry if I didn't answer your question.

He didn't open the thread about his app.
This is his goodbye.

With his last breath, he gives as an app as goodbye.

Persistent nastiness and aimless kvetching is a "fruitful pursuit"? That would certainly explain unwelcome contributions and even address the next part...

First define tangible. I get the idea from your disingenuous, combative blather that your personal definition is far more narrow (bizarre? unrealistic?) than most people's.

Too many nerds in a crammed place, it has to get ugly at some point. Heres a greeting to y'all. And a nice weekend too, and enjoy your beers, I will.
