recovery.item can be only booted from Fanoush bootmenu.

If you want, I can change message from "Error: Invalid file" to "Skipped item file" :-)
@Pali,
I don't mind that message itself.
I guess it is not possible to integrate the uboot menu and boot menu? Technically not most probably...
But my real showstopper is the fact my phone freezes at most of the choices I make from bootmenu (see previous mail). That's why I deinstalled bootmenu and recovery console for the moment.

But now I don't use backupmenu anymore, I really hoped for the recovery console option.

u-boot and fanoush bootmenu can be installed both without problem.

I had them both installed, no install issue. Starting from bootmenu (the second menu I end up in) hangs the uboot kernel I choose at startup. Really don't known why, starting from uboot menu without bootmenu works fine.

you need new version of bootmenu (1.11). old version has some problems with u-boot entries...

Just tried it again, the latest version available is bootmenu-n900 1.10.1. But booting uboot kernel 50pre from boot menu hangs my phone at start Thankfully nand boot option works in that case

Okay Pali, installed this new version.

It "only" offers 3 choices:
-maemo 5 (Internal nand)
-Recovery mode (internal flash)
-power off

The first choice seems to be the choice made in the prior uboot menu (not necessarily nand)? If so, I think my issue is solved.

Just for the record, as part of "how early You can modprobe fbcon" contest:

putting it just after MODULE_PATH line also works. It makes it 3th line in script (not counting comments) and first actual command to execute, and gives super early rolling text. I seriously doubt, if it could be put earlier, before module path declaration. Someone got balls to check it and rise?

@Estel,

The first two commands are just variable assignments which are internal to preinit, so you could safely modprobe fbcon at the second line of preinit (after the #!/bin/sh).

In fact the first line of *actual code* (defined as having a "side effect") that gets executed is within the init_system function, namely "mount -t proc none /proc".

Regarding balls: I have just edited preinit and put the modprobe line as the very second "physical" line of the file (i.e. after the shebang).

I'm now shutting down.
Weird: instead of shutting down it actually rebooted.
Lemme try again.
OK now it's actually shutdown.
Turning on.
It booted but came but a getbootstate of SHUTDOWN, so it shutdown
(it does this from time to time. Still don't know why).
So, on again:
OK. Worked fine

Something (AFAIK unrelated with fbcon) is fvcked up on the boot process of my spare N900. But I can't quite put my finger on it. Nevertheles, it works.

Yeah, adding fbcon to preinit does seem to fsck up the boot process some how.

It is totally worth it for the scrolling boot text though
