kudlatygosc - first and most important, links to references about bugfixes were linked in this very thread.

Second, It;s not that You don't come across issues - You're just used to live with them. For example, hildon-desktop memory leakage. Most non-CSSU non-KP people just treat is as normal, that they need to restart device at least one per week, or it becomes sluggish due to increased RAM usage etc. Well, for us, it isn't normal

Anyway, said again, I'm *not* going to convince anyone into instaslling CSSu, if she/he feels ok without it. Just don't require developing programs against non-CSSU from devs (you're not doing it, it's general advice).

Portrait mode is just a feature disabled by default. If you chose to use it apps can be easily blacklisted.

- I read somewhere in this forum, that switching from SSU to CSSU different set of patches will also be needed
Im not sure what you are referring to as far as "different patches" but I believe you maybe mistaken.

(so it's like abandoning stability of nokia release and truly venturing out into something new, with hard way of getting back).

- I'm affraid it can break something to a point of unusable device, and instead of using my phone I'll spend days searching how and fixing it.

Cssu users use their phone everyday reliably, including myself.

It is not hard at all to revert back from CSSU if you use backup menu. It will take a complete snapshot of your phone that can be completely restored in as little as 10 minutes.

Even if you never install CSSU I suggest you use backup menu.

- It does not fix few issues I care: ie: http proxy support in media player or http proxy in build in im-protocols (gtalk, gg)

gtalk (idk about gg) and media player are closed source and cannot be modified. This is why Open Media Player was made, an exact clone of the existing media player. IDK if proxy support was fixed, it is not something I use.

you can see the first post for verbose explanations of what was fixed. The link above is for new features not bug fixes.

In an effort to put my money where my big mouth is, I've started up a discussion page on the Community SSU wiki:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Talk:Community_SSU

I'm hoping to flesh out the details of what exactly the CSSU folks have done; I'm aiming for something like a very-souped-up changelog. To show what I mean, I've done a little research on Modest this weekend (actually, very little research, need to do more), and mocked up a page describing the changes CSSU has made to it.

My wiki skills are practically non-existent, so feel free to rip/tear as you please.

I would dearly love to have some screenshots for several of the new features, and since I don't yet have CSSU on my machine, maybe some of you folks out there could help contribute? Thanks!

Very nice Copernicus

Offline IMAP would allow you to sync mail clients on separate machines eg you move a message on modest to a local folder on the N900 it will automatically do this on your desktop or laptop as well. Complete info is here http://offlineimap.org/

Tree view allows quicker access to different folders of different email accounts. Rather than having to go in to an individual account to access say a local folder it is available on the first screen of modest. See below that is how modest starts with tree view.

edit btw updated the wiki with above info.

Mike,

The goal of this thread is to know why people are not using CSSU. Some people are giving the reasons they have. Whether you share or agree with these reasons is your own business.

But if somebody (@szopin) says he doesn't like one feature of the CSSU, you cannot just come and say FIX IT! That's not the point. I would of course fix a lot of things if I had the time for that, but I don't. So AT THE MOMENT my opinion is that I don't want to install CSSU.

Really you have no f'n idea what you are talking about there is an entire council that made decisions on how to package and what went into cssu.
So what? maybe he (and I) don't have a f'n clue why some things are the way they are with the CSSU. At least for me, that is a reason to be skeptical and wait until *I* have the time to go through all the information I can on CSSU and then make *MY* own opinion.

The more I read from you, the more I wonder if you are just a troll looking to start sh*t
I have the same feeling now, but about you No offense, but you're turning this thread into some sort of evangelizing effort. As long as people can discuss the reasons why they use or they don't use the CSSU then I'll find this thread interesting.

If you, or anyone, come here saying that we don't have a f*cking clue and that will should install the CSSU, then I'll be leaving this thread for good.

My response is to szopins caling someone elses work sloppy but yet has little to contribute himself. His responses are nothing constructive just misinformation. At no point have I told him or anyone else to install cssu.

Very cool! Can you please point me to some details here, maybe I can put them in the wiki? (As I normally run my PR1.3 N900 for weeks, even months, without seeing this problem, I'm not in a position to know exactly what you are talking about -- for me, restarting my device once per week isn't normal either.)

OK, will try to gather technical-side information about it, and post it on wiki discussion. Thanks for the effort!

Funny that you don't trust CSSU, but do trust three other people (Leto, Titan, and Pali), only one of which is still active here, with changing your kernel. I'll note that in CSSU you have people testing things submitted, in a separate release, before it ever makes it to a stable branch. KP has some internal testing on it's thread, but often changes go out that are not the most stable things in the world. (This coming from someone following that and participating in it.)

The truth is that there are lots of bugs in the official software, one look at the bug tracker will confirm that. Search for WONTFIX and lots of them are real and vital bugs, many now fixed in KP and CSSU. Maemo/Nokia did a good job in providing a relatively stable base (esp compared to things like OpenMoko), but it's not perfect, nor is CSSU. But realistically, there will not be a PR1.4, ever. The only path for bug fixes these days are to roll your own or move up to CSSU.

A huge thank you for this. I'll add what I can as I see things. If you have an area that needs a picture, leave a tag for it and someone will fill it in! Image snaps are quite easy to do (though I do understand you can't for some because you may not have things installed).
