Such a sad day last night. I disconnected my prescious n900 from its charger yesterday and didnt realized my charger broke off until I had to charge it later that day. Spoke with Nokia repair and support and they seem pretty understanding about it and said they would try to repair my device, but if they cant they would replace it. Hopefully they can repair it because I really dont want to reinstall all my app. It been one day and I feel so lost.

Just to make you feel a little better, the backup process works surprisingly well and it automatically downloaded and installed all the apps I was using, resetup my desktop, email, etc. It seems so far to me to be almost a complete restore. So provided you have a reasonably fast data connection it will be pretty quick (less than an hour over 3G) and requires hardly any prompting, perhaps even only a couple of clicks.
Why can't windowz be like this!

PS. everybody save yourself some trouble and file off those massive prongs on the microUSB connector! It still not exactly going to slip out even without the prongs, I have no idea what they were thinking when they put them on, guess it must just be in the standard.

You need an endoscope to see what is inside.
Pressured air with very thin nozle might get it out, if you could insinuate the nozle past the particle. Also magnet and shaking could get it out if it is metal (iron). If it is soft, "drilling" with wire might help.

Drilling small hole to the end of the canal, and then pressured air through that with thin tight nozle, most likely would get it out, but you may not want to do that and finding the end ...you would need to see some drawing where it is.

Yes my usb port broke and filling those prong on the usb connector sound like a great idea, since the usb port was stuck on the charger when I looked at it. I had a filling this might be a problem, since there is no tabs to push in order to release these prong from the connector. The funny thing is that I didn't realize how much I use my device. I bought my N900 last month and didn't realized that every since I had it neglected my laptop. turn it on the other day and had to do updates (so fun) . Guess I can read the forum on how the new upcoming update is.

so filing is a good idea here, got mine for 2 months,

i was not aware of this issue for the first week. during that week, iwas plugging the n900 to my laptop almost 3 times a day! (i am very excited...until now) and charge it once every 20 hours!!

so before i filed mine, there was almost over 30 plug and un-plug cycles occurred! then, i read about the usb port issue. Whew!

Since Nokia corporate has agreed to cover this, any resistance is liable to be local... so at this point getting resolution when you face resistance is a matter of peristance and escalation.

you can show them this thread or the reports about this issue, that Nokia is considering this under warranty to them.

i recently reported this issue to the nokia care at my location, at first, they said that this fault is due to poor device handling, and not be seen under warranty.

when i e-mail them back, with the proof that Nokia Corporate has seen and will take this in warranty, they replied that i just need to call them and make sure that my device has no physical or liquid damage then send it to them for repair.

i also believe that i told them that i have no issues, i even put the e-mail subject to an inquiry, not repair or something,
