I still can't get my head around the fact that the UK has it's own firmware version for unbranded/unlocked phones? WhyOhWhyOhWhy?!

Unless there is a very good reason (and I really can't think of ANY) then clearly UK users will always be disadvantaged as out of all the defined areas it is the smallest by a mile, and will of course get the least development effort.

The fact that no-bodies talking about what could possibly be in a UK firmware just makes me more suspicious

Ask Nokia. I don't know why there's more than one version of the firmware at all - nobody seems to have found a difference between them yet.

Nokia should release a firmware that does nothing but only make it available to everywhere but the UK

that would be a laugh

oh wait!

Ah, stupid me-- I do have a European variant. Maybe I need to manually reflash a US image to see the update...

I was very concerned when my n900, supplied by expansys uk, was delivered with USA firmware as I live in UK.

I am now thinhking it might be a good thing, as I updated the day it was released OTA.

It's one OR the other. If it arrived via update in app manager and you ran the update then you have got the update OTA. The option of using the flasher is for those not getting the update in app manager.
