there is an "UnGooglized" option y'know.
(Love it..."UnGooglized" ...hahaha)

see how well it does...
Maybe I will give it a go if it doesn't flop after some time...
I remember reading that there is actually some concern about /e/ and specifically the way they *might* (conditional, it's just a faint memory from one of my TMO readings) manipulate licenses to their advantage. And in my case, /e/ would not solve issues (1) and (3). I am not absolutely sure issue (2) would be solved either due to the widespread Google Services requirement (except if alternatives like microG really are 100% working and respectful of privacy).

I should definitely check before spreading false information if I am mistaken, but I'm stuck at issues (1) and (3) anyway.

well....there we go then!
Thank you Kabouik!

So ....the "unGooglely" option ...may indeed turn out to be a possible third weevil!

So sad ....
Before it is even out of the gate...
The death of the "UnGooglized" dream...

I know what is needed right now!
A "EuGoogly"!
I only know one good Eugooglizer
Think we can get Derek?

No, again these are my own preferences and I don't claim that they should be generic, especially (1). I do believe (3) is generally bad, however, since an operating system should not become a worldwide standard. I believe it should rather remain a way to access to the information and services and interact with them, instead of the other way around with everything being specifically tailored to fit a unique monopolistic system. Imagine using computers with no web browser because standard Internet would not exist anymore, everything would just progressively transition to specific applications that run only on Mac (if you are a Linux or Windows user), or reciprocally. Not looking forward to such "revolution".

Don't get me wrong, I am glad there are alternatives that actually try to degoogle the Google beast from its bad sides, but I regret that they still are tamed chimeras of the original beast, sharing some DNA and looking mostly the same. And Google is not going to help maintaining them either, they'll make it more difficult to fill the gap with the original just like they did in the past. Therefore, as long as there will be real alternatives like Leste or Sailfish, I'll stay on this side. When I truly have no choice anymore, I'll go for the tamed versions of the Google creature and I'll be even happier that they exist. Yet, I am afraid that they would act like vaccines on me, i.e., sanitized versions of the virus that my body would forever learn to reject anyway because they still look pathogenic. Again, this is my own impression, and I am absolutely 100% positive about vaccines (a shame that we have to make it clear nowadays).

I wish that there was a toe to toe competitor to the 2 weevils...
but unfortunately there isn't ...
and a huge amount of daily life on mobile is now in their courts...
banking and everything else...
If Leste can offer a viable daily alternative...
I will happily take it.
(That has been a hope of mine for some time)
But the 2 weevils have knit themselves into the very backbone of business and commerce...
just in that department ...forget almost all other aspects of life...
and I don't see yet any other option coming close .

Maemo on mobile is for puttering for me...(Diablo and fremantle anyway...hopefully Leste can make it possible to have a daily once again...)
Android on mobile for daily necessity.

Linux on pc's at home...
(I have no need for windows or droid's attempts or mac's ..I can happily do everything I need on Linux...)

I just wish linux were as competitive in the mobile industry ...
to topple the big 2...

I remember around 50 or 100 pages ago the similar topic regarding Android was discussed before...

As mentioned by gtmaster303, we do need to reach the wider audience to make sure the device sells enough to make our project surviving and continue to make it even more niche. Like a sub 5 inch slider, like removable battery etc. These won't exist if Pro1 wasn't popular enough. Who knows if we can get the road goes further and we are stronger maybe even shipping with alternative OS. But for now, shipping with Android minimise the risks most.

But that doesn't mean no decent or alternative OS... I have engaged with more developers and the first few engineering device will leave factory this week to dev's hands. And these are for our beloved alternatives.

And I want to answer the question of "why hate Android" personally: Because I have used OSes that I believe was / is better than Android. And I believe those should not be forgotten and deserves a place for users appreciate them.

Absolutely, and it is just as frustrating as it is concerning.

Linux at home and at work too, I am lucky enough that I can so far decide which OS to use at work (not sure I'll be able to finish my career with this freedom).

Absolutely no doubt about that (I said it too multiple times, despite my personal tastes about Android), and it definitely sounds like the best long-term project. I'm grateful that you managed to drive the project this far already, and it looks like it's going well.

I wish I was a dev to try out the damn thing!

Like ubport devs and Postmarket OS and others?

BTW the community meetup day suggestions don't seem to be set on one specific day, people on twitter want Thursday, the fxtec forum want Friday. But based on the amount of responses so far, it hasn't really reached that many people.

Run it on multiple days?.. And, I am guessing that many people are too far away from London to come to the meet-up in person. I am in Australia, for example.

Thank you. Best wishes,

if they do multiple days i sure hope they do multiple locations.

it would cost me half the price of the phone just to get to london, at that price i could just as well order the phone without a hands on and resell at half price if it turns out unusable for me.

Hi. Maybe I'm old fashion, but how about web access to the meeting. That might help. Just having a realtime view and maybe being able ask questions by some chat mechanism would be fun and informative!
