it does not matter how you'll install it. and as it seems somehow your dpkg DB got broken, i;d say - install it with apt-get and move on

EDIT:
or maybe it is because Nokia key expired so HAM is refusing to install from an untrusted source

Okay both make sense, even though only one will be correct.

Anyway, it's not decided it is able to install and is downloading. Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Currently I don't have the time to try old packages, if it is needed I can do some digging on Sunday
Simply navigating an unknown area with Marble in offline mode due to the forced offline from the update. /me silly, posting this as hint for somebody else facing similar problems.

Updated, so far, so good

only issue i've noticed since updating this morning is that some menu items are displayed corrupted. this morning is was camera and email but reboot sorted it out. now it is affecting calendar.

it cause a small portion of top left corner of the icon to display incorrectly. will reboot after typing this to see if it clears again.

edit: rebooted, all ok for now.

One tiny issue so far.

I see the provider name twice - but as it's EE it's not a problem. Not rebooted again since the initial reboot after installation. I'll report back if it's still there after the next reboot.

seems you are hit by a bug(will be fixed in the next update) of operator widget. However this is not related to -thumb, it is a bug that comes from CSSU-testing.

Yes, it looks like I can get it down to custom text plus operator by putting in some custom text.

... is it possible to have the package libqt4-dev_4.7.4~git20110505+cssu9+thumb0_armel.deb compiled for arm?

(in the thumb repo this deb contains qmake for i386)

Does it exist anywhere?

-dev packages are meant for the ScratchBox environment, so no such .deb exists. You have to clone the source repo (https://gitorious.org/community-ssu/qt-x11-maemo) , tweak the build scripts and build it by yourself. I vaguely remember there was a patch somewhere to do that (build qmake for arm), though I couldn't find it.

I am still waiting for your assessment if your "lots of pngs" application works faster with NEON-optimized libpng
