So much for my free time last week

When cooking, there are almost always operations that needs to be done during cooking time - for example lower the gas after 10 minutes, add an ingredient after 20 minutes etc.

allowing 2 alarms for rice cooking for example (with a displayed label) - after 10 minutes - "Rice - Lower the gas", after 30 minutes - "Rice - Ready" will be a great addition.
Should be implemented. Every alarm can display 3 messages during it's run. They can be configured by pressing the "add" icon in the edit dishes screen (see also opening post for screenshots). It will trigger the alarm, and also post a mail like notification. Regular banners have a max display time of 10 seconds, so you can just miss them. Turning it into a note will pause the app (not very convenient if you are using timers).

Total changelog of cooktimer 0.0.4-0 (extras-devel):

Code:
   * Moved checkable config to new config screen
   * Changed some qdialog windows to stackable windows
   * Added feature to show 3 messages during an alarm

Wow, thanks! I've always used separate alarms for that, never even though about asking for making it easier, as I would feel... Lazy? But, laziness is a main motor of progress, as some say, eh?

So, kudos for impeham for suggesting it, and ade for implementing.

looks good.

little bug: when creating a new item, additional alarms for this item can't be saved until the item itself is saved.

i've got another feature request:
sometimes i'd need control over the elapse time since the alarm was ringing, for example when making different sorts of tea and using just one timer or when experimenting with cooking time.

so, when ringing turning the countdown into a stop watch that can be halted by tipping the red area would be useful. It should do keeping the countdown running while showing a minus sign (or even without it).

Just uploaded version 0.0.4-1, please upgrade because of the last bullet in the changelog.

Code:
   * Delete icon in dish-edit menu now removes item (not just a clear)
   * Prevent adding messages before a new item is saved
   * Added clear buttons in messages screen
   * fixed some situations where other items where overwritten when adding message alarms

I have been working on the sound part. It will now pause the mediaplayer during an alarm and resume afterwards.
And the "play at max sound" option has gone. The alarm volume level can now be set and stored (see config screen in openingpost). It will be set at 50% for starters. Setting it at 100% will achieve the former "play at max sound" effect. It also supports the silent profile.
After the alarm is finished or interrupted, the original sound level will we restored.

Version 0.0.4-2 is uploaded to extras-devel.

Edit: A little error in the post-install part, 0.0.4-3 is now uploaded..

bug report:

Switching "keep backlight on" doesn't have an effect until restart.

Additionally switching to "off" works only as of the second time an alarm is run after restart.

concerning my stop watch feature request:

if you plan to implement this think about making it an option for each item and giving it a different color when running, maybe more yellow. So one can see it's an "open" countdown.

Thanks for reporting. Not sure about your second remark, but switching backlight on/off should now have a direct impact without restart (in the just uploaded version 0.0.4-4).

I am a bit reluctant, as there are plenty of stopwatch apps already, and this is not meant as a stopwatch. On the other hand it does not have a big impact on cooktimer as it is now.
Which means I did put your suggestion in my issue tracker, for reminder and later consideration.

Try this:

- switch on "keep backlight on"
- start an alarm and wait until backlight would darken
- stop the alarm
- switch off "keep backlight on"
- start an alarm
-> backlight still keeps on
- stop the alarm and restart it
-> backlight off works

It seems the context to my initial post got lost. My request is to have an option for each item not to stop the countdown when reaching zero (as it is now the case) but continuing counting into negative values to have control over the period of time since an alarm reached zero. That would be useful when i make a pizza and have to find out what time it takes until it's ready (adjusting the timer to a value that makes sure it takes some more time) or when a special green tea takes more 30 seconds than my green tea timer item says.

You are now referring to version 0.0.4-3 right? As I said that should be fixed in the latest 0.0.4-4. This testcase works as expected for me.

No, the context did not get lost for me, that's what I understood already
