You could also edit the binary to read a different config file.

Well I just stumbled across this mention of running two separate instances after posting a separate therad a few days ago:

I did not know that about Personal Menu, but having a second instance of the Launcher would give more screentop flexibility. Maybe have a vertical grouping and a horizontal grouping. or two opposite sides of the screen, different size icons, or grouping by app types...etc.
