Let's see if some very sharp eagle eye notice something I am testing.
It's clear in the screenshot, but hard to notice (particularly if you're not a Maemo 5 developer)

Like what?

The share button and the Tools one?

Xournal will be able to at least send the notes (the single notes .xoj or the whole annotated PDF) via Bluetooth and via E-Mail in the first final version.
We'll see about other sharing services.

The Tools button is there because the Fremantle version will have very few menus items (in the OVI Xournal album I linked earlier you'll see them) to complain with the Maemo 5 HIG.
Thus I need an alternative way to put all that stuff.
"Tools" will slide in a new window with all the tools.

It's still unclear to me how to organize all those tools...
I am open to ideas and mock-ups.

In the portrait screenshot the only thing one may notice is that I was playing also with the HildonPannableArea to have the whole canvas use the kinetic scrolling to pan around.

Although it works, the HildonPannableArea doesn't seem to report pressure (that's why the lines are thicker in this screenshots) and it's as slow as the normal scrollable area.

Unless I find a way to tweak it to make it smoother, I will not use it to scroll around.

We'll see.

Aniello

On organizing tools along the bottom. Here's an idea.

Click and drag

Clicking a button reveals a menu above the button with additional context-specific options. So for example, if you were to click the pen, as you held the stylus down, a menu would pop up above the pen with different options (thickness, colour, etc), that you could simply drag the stylus to for quicker selection.

Since this 'menu' could be the size of the screen, you could hide quite a few items under each button, for lightning-quick access.

Consider clicking the 'colour' button, and having a half or quarter circle with the full colour gamut appear above it. To select the colour, you need simply drag the stylus to the appropriate colour and release. Thus, you select colour effectively in only one click and drag.

The beauty of this is that, as soon as you lift the stylus, the menu disappears. So the buttons will still function as normal for simple use! If you want items hidden under the menu, you press the button, and drag to the particular item.

Here are some ideas:
Pen: select thickness, pre-set colours, ruler (drawing lines), pressure sensitivity toggle
Colour: a half/quarter circle with the full colour gamut, and arcs of pre-defined colours along the outside.
Eraser: Select deletion type (normal, full-strokes, etc), thickness

}:^)~

Here's another idea:

Camera-button: drag-modifier

It would be really useful to use the camera button, as a modifier for dragging the page. When the button is down, any pen stroke will act as a drag, rather than a write. When the button is up, the pen will write as normal.

This will make panning around the image much faster and more pleasurable if you're holding the phone and jotting notes!

}:^)~
