Personally, I like the icon in the screenshot better anyways. I don't look at it as portrait mode because.. well.. I never imagine radiowaves entering from the side of a phone, so... heh.
Yes, I get your point. It just looks too much like an iPhone. Maybe we need a 'N900 icon' for purposes like this? Would have been even nicer if Nokia provided these.

[EDIT]Case in point: Fennec start up screen. Nice, but does not show my device.

Also, you could tilt the device in landscape mode between 0 and 45 degrees instead of keeping it fully horizontal. My point was (and is) that I'd want the device more resemble a Nokia N900; not that the device has to be exactly shown as in landscape mode.
[/EDIT]

I think the icon looks very much like an N900.

Fennec, not so much.

Not hating, first of all I'm just one person on this forum, second I very much appreciate your effort (and thanked you in your posts!), third some kind of 'standard N900 icon' is very useful IMO and lack of that is definately not your fault or anything.

I was thinking, how does the device look when it is before you:

Now ask yourself the question: what is typical of this look?

1) The screen inside the device. That is well done, except the proportions are a bit off.
2) The NOKIA logo (which you cannot use but continue reading) and the lighter grey shade
3) As well as the camera/proximity_sensor/and other stuff on the left side
4) Also, if you look carefully, the left and right side are not straight, they are slightly round/curved.

Side note: since your icon is small the above is not easy to implement. In small icons, details might be less important relevant (and even omitted) than in big icons.

The icon looks pretty much like a N900 to me. If there's enough pixels, maybe you just need a little indication of little cut out bit where it says 'Nokia'.

It shows here http://talk.maemo.org/member.php?u=23879

Maybe you have displaying avatars off in your settings. Then you won't see them, even not your own. (I know cause I have it off myself yet like I said see your avatar on your member page.)

I definitly see what you are saying, the name thing was just a joke dude, thanks for the input, I'm going to mess around with the rounded edges and logo "spot" and see what comes out.

Good call.

Don't mess around too much. If you were to change one thing, make the screen a bit less wide.

Thanks. Your current proportions of size of screen & device rather resemble N8x0.

OTOH regarding my other points the icon we discuss is a small icon, so you could say the details do not matter. I'd really love to see you giving a good shot on it though! Now, even taking the rounding out of account, the shade of grey on outside (diff that on inside and screen) would be barely noticable which is unfortunate because the place where the Nokia logo is at, is very distinctive of this particular device.

Do you know about any SVG art of Nokia N900?
