Rumors has it that Nokia's recent multi-touch patent for resistive screens wasn't made for fun.

We can expect FUD from either side of the fence.

..but as with SCO I'm not worried that I'm suddenly not allowed to use Linux (or in this case multi touch) anymore on my device.

Has Groklaw touched this subject already? I searched for Nokia and could not find it. Searching for Apple gives a timeout...

Ok guys, calm down now. I will right away call Apple and ask them to pay OUR Nokia one billion dollars immediately. Now, You Happy??

On a serious note, I really want them to pay Nokia for their bloody practices. I also want them to pay for making the poor public even dumber!! Deceiving is SIN!!

When Apple would be asked to pay Nokia the damages, I would be damn eager to read an article on i-Engadget saying "Nothing Happened Today, Lets Move on!!"

Engadget has posted in-depth analysis about the case. Well worth reading. http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/29/n...epth-analysis/

Includes this interesting chart:

Interesting to see Motorola as third largest patent holder. I allways thought it was Nokia-Ericsson-Qualcomm.

My understanding from the patent description is that it's a hybrid capacitive/resistive screen... is that incorrect?

That chart shows the number of "essential patent families", not their relative importance. It maybe that the 3 most important patents, or 3 more important families, are held by Nokia, Ericsson, and Qualcomm ... but that Qualcomm just doesn't own _many_ of those patents.

(heck, for all we know, the 3 that Qualcomm owns might, alone, be the 3 most important)

Engadget article was remarkably matter of fact, rather than sensationalism we saw in the Nokia financial results article.
