It seems fine with the standard grocery item type bar codes, but not the other long small serial number bar codes.
I've been able to scan just about every 1D barcode that I've tried. UPS tracking numbers work, for example. Some of the smaller sized ones (barcodes on a HDD) I couldn't get to scan, as I couldn't quite get the camera to focus properly, even using the "manual" focus.

Hi all,
I'm interested to install this apps, and tried to download the deb package to the phone, and install it from there.

The only way I know how to, is click on the deb pkg, and let install mgr do the rest. In this case, it doesn't work.

Here's the link where I download the deb pkg from:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...rcode/0.0.8-0/

What I've tried:
1. File manager, run pkg - fail.
2. Check install log, indicates missing packages: libdmtx0a, libzbar0a
3. Get the installation pkg from 'Depends' list.
4. Install from File Manager, Both failed.
- Log: Incompatible package. Package must have "Section: user/FOO" to be considered compatible.

search for "user/Foo" in the Talk forum, referred to 4 posts, and no avail.

Threads i referred to:
- #10363: Incompatible package, Section: user/FOO
- #8567: How To Install Applications?
- #7877: Incompatible Software
- #3243: Cannot install Python

I'm not familiar with LINUX, pls bear with me.

Here are my questions, to approaching solution:
1. What is red-pill mode? Should this be an option?
2. Do I need Python? I tried install Python pkg, same "user/FOO" fail logged.
3. What are my options, that will prove handy to get mbarcode installed, and in future, be able to troubleshoot apps installation failures?

Thanks in advance.

What you need to do, if you want to try applications like this, is enable the extras, extras-testing, and extras-devel repositories in the Application Manager.

Once those are active, you can install mbarcode through the Application Manager instead of trying to install .deb files directly.

That makes things extra hard.

I can only suggest trying this: http://wiki.maemo.org/USB_networking

I'd love to have http://www.codecheck.info/ as a plugin.
Also, just googling for the code sometimes gives useful hits.

lardman, great work!

I have a question, is it possible to use the front camera, or is the quality to bad? Then you wouldn't have to remove any lenscover but it will be just a little bit harder to aim right ofcourse.

Btw,some nice firefox barcode generators for those of you who didn't know:

Hi all!
I love this application! Great work lardman! And everybody that has participated in the project, I have it running on the n900 and it works like a charm!
I am VERY interested in helping in the development of this project. I have just finished compiling it in scratchbox, and have it running that version on the phone...sweet =)

I am so excited!
