On the N900 front - we've had two firmware updates already this month. How can that be lack of support?

The N900 has been marketed primarily towards developers rather than normal consumers. I wouldn't expect all the same things as standard consumers would get. Although to be honest I'd be surprised if we don't see Maps on the N900 soon.
Agree mostly - my old N96 took months before it even started remotely working as promised! Nokia are moving in the right direction and after only a couple of months.

As for it being marketed towards developers, this is bollx.

However, for those of you that seem far too stressed about this, I suggest you visit Ebay later and sell yours.

This is a new phone, all these apps were not available on any other Nokia in such a short space in time or the godly iPhone. So chill and enjoy the N900 and learn more about it. These new apps will hopefully come along sooner or later. Previous Nokias still are having apps made now. I just hope the N900 continues to receive attention even when manhatton 6 comes out....

I saw the same post in Nokia Discussion Forum about Maps being 97% complete, and first agreed that probably the just adding the voice guiding would make Ovi Maps for Maemo at least a bit usable, and that doesn't seem to need heavy coding.

But then I wondered, and all the other features they are just announcing for free in Ovi Maps 3.0 like traffic information, guides and so on?? First I tough Ovi Maps for Maemo would catch up with Ovi Maps 3.0 for S60 in order to unify the product versions, with just minor adjustments for each platform. But if Nokia plans to keep the Maemo version as a separate product I am sure we won't have all the features from Symbian before the next Maemo device.

I really believe that the new Ovi Maps will also come to the N900. They have been doing a lot of improvement to their S60 platform and this will be a good way for them to improve their sales. Let not also forget that the N900 is one of the last devices Nokia has release so it'll take a while for them to make this application portable from an S60 environment to a Maemo environment. Let be patient.

So wouldn't it make sense that the very same phone they are pushing [N900] on the same page as the Ovi store and the Maps advertisement be able to use both those features fully

i may have this wrong and probably have, but on the nokia site about ovi maps free nav, although the n900 isnt there, there is another link to select other compatible devices and the n900 is there. if you select that then it says the latest version is already installed on our masterpieces. not at home at the mo so cant check fully but anyone else noticed this?

I suppose that it means in Nokia Ovi site there is no new update of Maps for N900.

20days old n900 Owner, like most things sip/gtalk calling / Video play back (supporting most of codecs).

happy with using n900 but little bit disapointed by reading nokia announcemnet. Expecting n900 on the top of supported list.

Will wait for it.

It's called software development. You sould be glad that they are adressing the bugs so quickly.

Maemo 5 is not complete. A platform that just added phone capabilities and has still no support to USSD operator codes (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5357) is anything but complete. Turn by turn navigation is the least problem. Yet it is a beautiful experience, but the road to feature completess will be reached only with maemo 6.
And from maemo 6 on the platform will receive the same support as symbian.

The best selling worldwide smartphone of 2009 was the nokia 5800 followed by the n97. The N900 has sold way less.
