3) Is Gregale known to be buggy? I've read where some folks had a hard time installing apps after upgrading to Gregale.

It's easy - just download Nokia's firmware update software and follow the directions.
Yes.
The hardest part is probably just keeping track of which software packages you have installed and then tracking them down after you flash the firmware. It should be sufficient to write down the list of installed applications listed in the Application Manager. You might also want to write down which repositories you have added, too.
I haven't had any trouble personally, but it's possible. Theoretically, gregale is backward-compatible with scirocco - it's the other way around where you run into problems.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Gnuite. Since I've never flashed to a new Operating system before, please indulge this NooB a few more questions.
Once I upgrade, and re-install my apps, will I be able to import data backed up to my mmc card? For instance, I am using the gpe suite. Will I be able to import my contacts, calander, to do list, etc once I reinstall GPE? What about my Bookmarks?

Phew. Long night. Just had to get this out the door before my work week started.
I fixed the WMS bug, and I added formal support for OpenStreetMap. The following URL formats can be used for OpenStreetMap:
Traditional "Mapnik"
http://tile.openstreetmap.org/%0d/%d/%d.png
Developmental "Osmarender"
http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/Ti.../%0d/%d/%d.png
A slew of other minor changes were made. Here's the complete Change Log, in case you're interested:
* Fixed bug that caused announcements to be late.
* Fixed bug with WMS repositories.
* Added native support for OpenStreetMap; made it the default repo.
* Added support for remapping all of the hardware keys. In doing so, I
removed the "Escape Key"-specific stuff in Misc. 2, and cleaned up that
tab a little bit (i.e. moved Info Font Size to Misc. [1]).
* Added Zoom In/Out buttons to the View menu.
* Added a scale.
* Added an About page with version information.
* Added a "Double Pixels" option for repositories; if enabled, maps will be
shown at a minimum of double the pixel size, for those who don't want to
squint.
* Added a "Next-able" option for repositories, which controls whether or not
the repository is selectable via the "Select Next Repository" shortcut.
* Changed "Track Mark" functionality back to old "Track Break" name.
* Added the ability to add waypoint-like "Marks" to the track. Marks are
like Track Breaks, except that you can give a description.
* Added some additional "first time running Maemo Mapper" help.
* Reorganized the track and route code.
* Modified timestamp to use GPS time if available.
* Changed old recursive-make-dir code to just use g_makdir_with_parents.
* Changed Repo Manager to support using ~ in the cache dir.
