Separate archive because:
a) installation procedure is now similar it is for other devices.
b) it eliminates complexity, keeps it simple and gives me more time to focus on what is important.
c) no dependency on Maemo, no need for arm device (or qemu) for chrooting.
d) real distributions have one? Also, in future, I hope my (new) base repo could be included in alarm.

Yes, you can still do the install "old" way, or any other way possible. There is no dependencies to any of my packages or any kernel whatsoever. You are not required to download this, ever.

Yes, this rootfs has the alarm base group from yesterday, added with kernel, firmware and integration from n900-base. It also has the missing dialog package for wifi-menu installed, again, to make it simple and more user friendly.

I Updated the guide.

Instructions for people with existing installs: remove the old repository, and add the one that is in the installation guide. Then,
Code:
pacman -Syu n900-integration linux-omap-n900 linux-omap-n900-headers

systemctl enable n900_lights.service
systemctl enable n900_modem.service # if you need it
systemctl enable tidspbridge.service # if you have tidsp-binaries
sync ; reboot
Point your U-Boot to /boot/uImage and hope for the best.

Added an example to guide how to set up persistent MAC-address for wlan.

Not a single comment about the new rootfs, new packages or migration to new repos? Anyone?

Sorry, just following the thread out of a theoretical interest. I had an old version installed last year but not this one.

Keep up the good work, anyway!

Don't despair. I (and I am sure many others) have been following this thread with great interest. I will try installing your new build this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Sorry if I managed to sound impatient. For me the user experience, from installation to basic usage, is now pretty much the same it is for any other (omap) device with Alarm, so I'm eager to hear how it works out for others. I may be somewhat blind to some aspects of use cases and needs of a "regular" user, so I need the feedback to make the base packages perfect, before further focusing on the additional functionality.

To those who follow this thread but are not on #maemo-alternatives, there's already been some interesting tryouts when speaking of extra functionality. Fellow member from our humble channel has been experimenting with Wayland stuff, and I have, well, looked at more traditional options, like this one:

I'm also following and interested, as you know, but I'm having u-boot problems, so as soon as I get the time to sort that out, I'll give it a try and report here.

Don't I have to
Code:
pacman -Rn n900-configs
?

pacman -Syu should pull an update to n900-configs too if it is installed, so you should not have to do that, not sure how it behaves though. If there are some conflicts, update n900-configs first, then install the rest.

Sorry, I follow this thread with great interest but I am a bit hesitant in installing this as my N900 is my primary (and only) mobile-device. I can't say other than you are doing awesome work and it's great to see it shaping up like this...
