Also notice how bad N97 results are. This is what you can expect from the upcoming N900 tablet, as its keyboard should be similar to N97's.
I find that astonishing... a "real" qwerty keyboard is slower to type on than the iPhone's virtual keyboard? Wow.

Well, the buttons are flush with the surface and they do not go down. At all. Just try N97 in some store and you will see what I mean. My only hope is that the supposed N900 keyboard will be better.

Not to worry. The N900 will have a Timex Sinclair/ZX81-like keyboard and as such handwriting recognition will be the top input method again.

The article test methodology is really really really really bad.

"In the case of each device, I practised a little first and then timed myself entering the strings of text, correcting any typos as I went. In each case, I did the test twice and included the average result below.
This has even less value than "I think this input method is better than that input method."

Just two of the many issues:

The hardware keyboard methods will be much faster after a week of use. The OSK methods only a little faster.

Does the tester have a device that he uses day to day? Is it one of the devices in the table? Might this affect the results?

I just don't understand this. I did try an N97 some time ago, and I was surprised at how excellent the feel of the keys was (especially after reading bad reviews about it).

Either there are different versions of the hardware floating around, or people's perception of what makes a tactile experience differs _dramatically_ (I don't know about anyone who disliked the keys on the device I tried though).

Same feeling here, maybe we are too attached to our tablets keyboard or never tried one of this so called awesome and very smooth keyboards .

Btw, which device should I try in order to have a superior keyboard experience ?

The E90 has the best keyboard on a currently available handheld device.

It really depends. After 18+ months of use I'm still much faster with the stylus keyboard on the N810 for shell, multilingual or any input use case that requires frequent use of numbers or symbols.
