We, technology enthusiasts, are used to accept things this buggy way. That would not be acceptable for other products like a car. Technology market will eventually evolve in a way that users don't buy a product if it has a lot of defects, but right now there is no such option from none of the competitors.

Heh. Whoever manages to work out a way to release products with a very very low number of defects, whether by development tools, methodologies et.c. will quite likely become a legend and filthy, filthy rich.
Not that every other field is defect free, far from it.

Making customers not care about serious defects because they love the brand is different from actually being nearly defect-free

Pr 1.2 is probably not released until that damn volcano is done. Some hot shot from finland must fly to some stange location and sign a papper, press the BIG red release button before the world can reach PR 1.2.
I blame everything on that f***ing island at the moment. Can't fly home...Can't upgrade to PR 1.2.
Grr...anything else I can blame on that island? well, my english

I know I am getting off-topic here, but anyway this thread is not that serious...
Yes, no every field will be defect free and even the car example have some recalls, and comparing with IT complexity is not that fair. But even in the IT SW & HW field, there are different demands for military use for example. The level of security and reliability are obviously greater than the ones for the general market.
The quantity of "acceptable" defects is driven by the product purpose and its target market. As we get more dependent of technology each day, mobile phone is also getting a lot of different uses. In a lot of countries people are already using their phones for payment transactions... In this example, if someone stops carrying the wallet and credit card trusting in their mobile, no doubt the SW & HW must be more bug free than today, specially in the security area.
