its because this phone requires a little hard work and some people really are that lazy or don't want to screw around with the terminal. a friend accidentley went on the terminal and he thought he broke it because his windows did the same. it only booted commandline because the hard drive was spannered. he loved his iphone and even with the jailbreak it was still a simple device. i mean when unexperianced users mess up there N900 they panic. experianced users think **** it I'll just reflash. the N900 require a bit of thinking. I remember an Apple fanboy trying to convince me his phone was better as it had angry birds seasons. another fanboy trying to convince me that the N900 couldn't run flash and the iphone could....for them ignorance is bliss

For some fanboi's, ignorance is bliss.
For some, blind ego is their bliss.

I get the feeling there's at least some bliss going around in every camp. These days, maybe a bit too much bliss in the N900 camp.

Like I said in my previous post its all about the user and its expectations.

I don't think being a fanboy actually has to do something wether a phone is good or not.
The only thing is that you judge the phone with a Halo-effect, meaning the perception of one trait (i.e. a characteristic of a person or object) is influenced by the perception of another trait (or several traits) of that person or object.

The result is that the view of the user is distorted by the effect.

And users that really know what they are doing fix it without reflashing.

Wow, this thread really has descended into trolling. By longtime board members even.

lol, that's how I view the new maemo users who glorify hacking (and hackability) above everything else. they get a sense of accomplishment by doing something, without realizing what it is that they really do.

To be fair, the above caricature only represents a very small subset of this community and I think many of them comes aboard only after the n900.

ps: added a couple more ;p

This topic should be closed. BUT that’s MY opinion.
I think the only thing that matters in this topic is that there are opinions and the need to exept them.

Yes, The n900 requires some work.
Yes, The n900 requires some knowledge unlocking its potential.
and I could go on…
The more you know about the n900 the more you’ll see its potential.

Example: I still cannot sync my wife her n900, our laptop and computer and my n900…

Here it comes…
That is not a n900 problem..
I just did not put the effort in the problem it requires… and really it’s not that much of an effort… I Think.

A long ways back… I knew about Linux… Well I noticed I don’t anymore.
So it’s FOR ME to do something about that.

Looks like you think “well he’s telling me a n900 requires a lot of work”.
Well it does not. Download faster application manager or don’t…
Read a bit on the net. And most things fall into place.
If not, there’s always some help online.

For instance, the second day after our n900’s came in, after a long hard day.
I wanted to watch a movie from my NAS.
My wife did not like that, wanted to watch something on TV
I retreated to our bed. There I decided to read a bit about the new phone.
Less than 15 minutes later I was watching the film from my NAS on my TV in the bedroom. 5 minutes after that I also had subtitles.
Proofing my point, read and put some effort into any problem and it usually is easily solved.

So please don’t bash the n900…
I think it’s one of the best things around.

Use it out of the box and you can do awfully much with this “phone”
Put some effort into the n900 and It IS the best thing around.
Put some more effort into the n900 and there’s not much you cannot do.
Make the n900 into a hobby and you have an awesome, nearly limitless machine.
Beat that Iphone.

Until the apps want more processor power (I’m running 1000Mhz) you cannot go very much wrong buying a n900.

AND really no one has to answer this post because this is MY opnion.
