Thanks for clearing up. Has Smtube been working too? I tried it once but becuase it did not work I thought it is abandoned.
We have mytube in combination with youtube-dl which has no active developer/maintainer.

^ I don't but I get a similar error when I try to use the -vU option.
Not a high priority for me, but I will look into it evtl.
I also uninstalled python3.2 again, because I fear it might wreak havoc with my system (I did get some weird messages from dpkg). I think there might be a way to use a home-installed python version somehow, I will try that.

Python3.2 uses the outdated libssl0.9.8 so when you have openssl 1.1.0 installed, and would like to use the new features in python, you need to recompile it against libssl1.1.
But Python < 3.5 does not have a support for openssl1.1.0. I would suggest try first with python 3.5.3.
We are getting "half" OT here..sorry for that. Following discussion about youtube-dl, or newer python should go to the according thread or to a new one please.

Yes I saw that. Nice. But if it is still unoptimized I do not dare to try. Could something like this be done for cutetube2? I haven't yet been able to watch youtube, just download. Well I was able for a short moment but because I wanted ssl1.2 to work I had to update qtstuff and then I couldn't watch anymore.
But if cutetube2 is not possible then youtube-dl is enough for me.

Afaics only youtube-dl are not losing the race; if it's possible to install python 2.6 or 2.7 or, hell, even 3.2+ on Fremantle, it should Just Work.
