Another photo from my family's recent vacation:

None of the domestic US flights we took had any in-flight movies; they said that the newer planes are being built without the equipment at all. I guess everyone who wants to watch a movie can buy a cheap portable DVD player, so what's the point?

EDIT: I have substituted a much smaller picture in the thread. Click the flickr link to see the big version.

Qole, what are those headphones she has on? I assume they're some kind of noise canceling model? Oh, and yes, she is very adorable.

Oh, yeah, and btw, I did exactly that same thing flying to and from Vegas earlier this year. Oddly though, I had regular headphones and had to struggle the hear the stupid movie. Man, I totally forgot how loud those planes were. >.<

They aren't noise-canceling headphones, but they work well because they have the "full seal" around your ear, with the black donut cushions around the speakers. They work great for me on the bus, when ear buds are totally useless. They were $30 at Radio Shack, many years ago, back when printing the word "Digital" on your headphones made them sound cool.

"Digital Headphones"... what BS. but an interesting concept, although then you'd have to build in a2d conversion, so they'd need batteries... ach.

qole: Yeah, I've got some $15 fly by night wonders from kmart that are the around the ear style too. The over the ear style sucks because they're painful to wear after a while. They make your ears go to sleep.

I fly pretty much every week for work and I must say noise cancelling headphones were the best purchase I ever made. Plug them into my n810 and I can barly tell I am on a plane anymore. I bought some Audio-Technica's and they are awesome for the price. Tons of reviews saying they are equivelent to the bose q2's. Bring up canola or mplayer for movies and I am good to go. I beat Final Fantasy 1 for the old school nintendo on my n810 while playing only during flights. RPG's are a perfect way to make a flight go fast. Crank you favorite tuns, mute the game music, and you are ready to rock. I need to start ripping movies to watch but I've recently only started buying Blu-ray since I got my PS3........

Yeah, I converted all my movies to AVI, and set them up to be watched on my DVR, because I got sick of fussing with the disks all the time. I also downconverted a bunch of them from use on my nokia. It's really the best way to go these days.
