If you get kicked offline, and you can't get back on, and your install fails, you could be in big trouble... don't reboot! Anyone have any ideas how to get back online?

I clicked on update and it went through all steps except that I had to reboot it myself. After that I checked About Product in Control Panels and it still shows OS2008- Version 4.2008.23-14 instead of 4.2008.30-2.
Did I do anything wrong??? Can someone verify that pls!
