i want to use email on the N900 whilst in India (without using the browser)

also another 2 questions to N900 users in india on Vodafone:
1) does your GPS location work OK and correctly? I am in trivandrum, but my GPS location on the N900 is a village in Bihar!
2) does your skype connection work?

many thanks in advance
ans 1..vodafone live is not a ful fledged net service so IM clients gps n mails will not work on it..in order to get this to work you need to get vodafone mobile connect activated on your connection..u can do this by sending an sms the details of which can be had from customer care n u will b charged a monthly rent of rs199 for this service in addition to the download costs..

ans 2..yes gps works fine n it not only shows my locality but the exact lane where i live in delhi

ans 3 skype login worked well for me..havnt really tried a call on it though

i got what you r asking for..the call summary is not currently implemented and i cudnt find an app for it..do PM me if you happen to find one..but u do have an extended call log to track the calls u have made incase u r interested but it wont solve your purpose of checking tha balance...

the automatic notification that comes from the operator doesnot work on n900 bcos ussd dialling is not yet working..the balance msg you get when u end a call is a response to a automatic ussd which is send to the operator when you end a call..since n900 currently does not catch the ussd responses so forget that till the next release atleast..hope u getting what am trying to say

in the meanwhile to check your balance, free sms n free mins u can use the ussd widget..its pretty easy to use n has been very helpful for me..

I am using the ussd widget from a month, n still I am waiting for the ussd support in PR1.2. I will defnately notify u if I get some new on that support.

Right now I am using my airtel sim in US. it shows 2.5 below the network tower notification icon.

i already have tried the vodafone mobile connect settings

but i still do not get any gprs

on my N900 only gprs via vodafone live connect works (as on http://www.vodafone.in/existingusers..._settings.aspx but with proxy servers enabled)

so please post me your vodafone mobile connect settings if it is different to want vodafone sends via SMS or have made changes to it to get it to work.

is anyone getting similar problems or were getting it but you have fixed? please post me your solutions!

Hi, first u confirm from vodafone whether vmc is working. Then u can modify previous packet data connection( vodafone live) Put Access point name as WWW think thats about it no proxies or specific ip is needed so remove the tick of proxy if u have done that. And then it should work !

Hey nice to see you guys out here .. Im in Mumbai .. and frankly i havent seen anyone with the N900 around here . I'm using it with vodafone live .Speed really sucks .waiting for 3G or number portability whichever comes first .I'm still studying so i really dont need to check mails on the go. but will surely change to a better service provider when num portability arrives .. vodafone data plans are real shite!

as sdesai has correctly pointed out, you first need to get vodafone mobile connect activated from vodafone

Guys, TRAI is thinkin about moving over to 11 digits! Wont those guys ever take rest? they should think about finishing the mobile number polling business first.

Hi Guys,

I am from Bangalore and I have already seen 2 N900's here other than mine..very surprising indeed.

I am using Mobile office from airtel. Even though the GPRS speed is not that great I can still enjoy decent browsing and also able to make calls over integrated Gtalk and skype

Will be posting a full review of my time with N900 on my website:
