At least in theory this could work...
yup it worked I am downloading it via bittorrent right now and it seems like 1/3 of the blocks are corrupted/missing.

if someone has the file please seed !
thanks.

I wonder if there is a way to load the dump saved in locations other than MyDocs and SD card. I am asking this because I have swapped the MyDocs partition and the home partition, i.e. now 28GB of /home in ext3 format and 2GB MyDocs in fat. I use the finished english dump (>10GB), which is too big for MyDocs (now only 2GB) and my SD (8GB).
Is it necessary to tweak the config file so that the dump can load from anywhere? The wiki entry says the program will generate a .evopediarc under /home/user, but I can't find one.
Thanks in advance!
Being able to read the whole wikipedia on the phone is surely a killer feature of n900.

Actually there is no default location for dumps. I think /home/user/.evopediarc is only created when a dump is successfully added, so it could be normal that it is not there on your system. You should be able to add dumps from the GUI, editing the .evopediarc is only the second option.

Can someone post or attach a sample evopediarc here? It's funny because in order to edit the config files I have to load the dumps, but now I can't load the dump just because I can't edit the config! lol

That's an old file. Try this one:

If you don't have .evopediarc, it should be created when evopedia starts. If you have one but with old paths, you can delete/rename it, then it should be recreated. In any case, here is mine:
Code:
[dump_en]
data_directory=/home/user/MyDocs/evopedia/wikipedia_en_2010-06-22

Thanks. But the file is not generated automatically when launching the program. My path is /home/user/evopedia/wikipedia_en_2010-06-22 . /home/user is now a 27GB ext3 partition and /home/user/MyDocs is a 2GB fat partition. My microSD is a 8GB in ext2. However even with the correct .evopediarc the program still complains about missing dumps.
What's more weird is the "Add Dump" function cannot go upper than /home/user/MyDocs (i.e. the "Nokia" directory), and the program even fails to "see" the SD card. The SD card is working and mounted perfectly and the stock File Manager can handle it without issues.
This situation makes me suspect that:
- this evopedia port is hard-coded to look for dumps only in MyDocs and on the card
- the program cannot recognize ext2/3 formatted partition. If true than this is abnormal being a linux program.

Or perhaps my dump is corrupted.
These are the files in the dump after uncompression:
Code:

File list looks ok...

If path are really hardcoded, you can use mount --bind to make files available where evopedia expects them.

Code:
mkdir -p /home/user/MyDocs/evopedia
mount --bind /home/user/evopedia  /home/user/MyDocs/evopedia
That's not a very good workaround. You will probably need to unmount this dir before using n900 in mass storage mode. And this mount won't persist on reboot.

Thanks. Just tried your method.
Mounting is ok but evopedia still shows the same error message as before:
Error
Directory
/home/user/MyDocs/evopedia/wikipedia_en_2010-06-22 does not contain a valid evopedia dump (Metadata file does not exist.).

Which one is the "Metadata file"?

[EDIT]
Just found a workaround tp let the program access any location by cd into your target directory containing the evopedia dump directory and then running evopedia from the terminal

[EDIT 2]
This is what I saw in the Add Dump dialog

Oh, indeed there is a metafile:

metadata.txt
Code:
[coordinates]
file_11 = coordinates_11.idx
file_10 = coordinates_10.idx
file_13 = coordinates_13.idx
file_12 = coordinates_12.idx
file_15 = coordinates_15.idx
file_14 = coordinates_14.idx
file_17 = coordinates_17.idx
file_16 = coordinates_16.idx
file_06 = coordinates_06.idx
file_07 = coordinates_07.idx
file_04 = coordinates_04.idx
file_05 = coordinates_05.idx
file_02 = coordinates_02.idx
file_03 = coordinates_03.idx
file_01 = coordinates_01.idx
file_08 = coordinates_08.idx
file_09 = coordinates_09.idx

[dump]
normalized_titles = 1
language = en
orig_url = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
num_articles = 3863318
version = 0.3
date = 2010-06-22
And complete listing of files is:
Code:
       62 Oct 10 04:02 coordinates_01.idx
       62 Oct 10 04:02 coordinates_02.idx
