So, at least I can read, dear. (Was there really a need to patronise me, on top of everything else? Nice to see how good you are at keeping things constructive...)

In a conversation, things don't stay static. But of course, I'm not sure why I expect you to be reasonable, given your attitude above.

Finished.

Backtracking to how we can make things happen... assuming we have some ideas for solutions, how would we go about making that reality? Is this food for the community ML, brainstorm, or the forums themselves?

Yes. I said you were part of a team. You said you weren't and then claimed that I got my facts wrong. So I posted proof that you were part of the team and now it's plain from reading this thread that you said something untrue. You got the comment because you deserved it.

Nice try. When you get simple things like these two wrong, can't help but wonder what else you are wrong about.

I guess we're going to be too busy quibbling over scemantics here instead of getting things done. Such a shame. This is starting to make me remember why I was happy to see the thread move to a place better suited to actually getting things done.

Now, I'll quote you:

Emphasis mine.

Yes, I'm listed on the wiki page for the unofficial MeeGo on N8x0 adaptation, because I want to make that happen if possible, to help extend the life of the devices (despite not owning one myself!), as a maemo.org community member, as that very wiki page you cite mentions, and meego.com is the place where that unofficial adaptation is now taking place, as you well know.

But by all means, despite the fact that there is no competition, despite what you seem to believe, at the end of the day, it's on meego.com, so I'm magically "a meego.com guy", not a maemo.org guy, despite the fact that the team is unofficial, and quoted as being full of maemo.org people.</sarcasm>

Craziness like this is doing a much more effective job of making me want to walk away from maemo.org than closing that thread did, TBH. Not that I will, because I know there's a lot of other people with less odd and distasteful opinions.

EDIT

IMO
Maybe you should run for council or suttin'. I bet you would make changes.

***
I have not been shy in the past for suggesting that council Members not be forum moderators.

This is nothing personal against any particular moderator. IT is just my belief that there is already the mistaken impression that the Council represents Nokia interests in this community and if Council members were moderators, by extension, that impression would be that the forum is a company one.

So if for the good of the community, threads are moved, closed, or any other action taken by a moderator it is by extension, under the direction of Reggie and can not be easily argued as being a result of the Council or Nokia's influence.

A-hats still would of course but there wouldn't be any wind behind the sails of such claims and the threads that purport this would have a sad but short life and die of natural causes.

I went further and said that Reggie or the forum administrator should have autonomous control over how the forum is organized and run and that should be understood by proclamation from the Council. Because the council was supposedly "charged" with overseeing the forum operation I said that this could be accomplished by appointing the Admin for an agreed upon term. That term could have been for life if they so desired. My intention was to keep the Council, and by perceived extension Nokia, at least an "arms length" away from the operation of the forum.

This was to much to grasp for some and my sentiments were somehow twisted into me "Not being happy with Reggie" or somesuch. This was the farthest from the truth as my intention was to give Reggie and his mods the freedom to trash (soft delete) threads (perhaps like this one ) and then if someone had a problem, provide a landing page with a form for contacting the administrators and not lobbying the council in this forum.

If you feel a post has been deleted in error or would like a closed thread reopened, please complete this form and an administrator will contact you via PM or your email address if it has been included. Please provide the approximate time of the post or thread creation, the subject, the forum in which it was posted, and a short explanation as to why you are bothering us with this chicken shyt in the first place.

Thank you and please have a pleasant day.

And removing council from positions of moderation is not going to help correct an incorrect assumption at all, it's just going to take some of the people who are tasked as being more representative of the community as a whole and add arbitrary restrictions to them, as I see it.

Fact is, that the council is the community's representatives to Nokia, a grease for keeping the cogs moving if you want. I haven't seen any real complaint with the work they do on these forums, and I don't think penguinbait's original issue was with any of them in particular.

.. unless I'm drastically misunderstanding the point you're making, which is possible..

I gave the OP thanks for this post. On the other hand one has to see that 90% of all the posts are irrelevant products of boredom, thus they transmit boredom, although i sometimes enjoy "noise" myself.

I wonder if people, and that's the funny part, actually realize that they are philosophising about stupid pieces of electronics, building theoretical constructs about PHONES!? Users of devices don't seem to notice that their devices also use their users in some way...

just ban them all new and certain old, only purpose them trolls have served recently is turning a great place to be to one where its not even worth posting much on any more, i still spend a few hours each day cherry picking the threads i read and even doing that i cant avoid the trolls derailing good threads.

Banning on sight isn't really a good solution. Some degree of education before that is a good idea (warnings, etc), but I do think there should be a definitive limit to tolerance of bad behaviour.

The point I was making is/was that this forum should and could be a fantastic tool for the community. All tools need to be taken care of or they will break. Any tools used by a community need to have rules of use in place because the "someone else will take care of it" mentality usually comes into play.
Any rules of use must be good for the tool and not the dang community.
The community can not by committee decide what is good for the tool. They can assign a person to be in charge of the care and maintenance of the tools and that person who by assignment sees and uses the tools everyday will know more about what care and maintenance an individual tool needs and should be given the resources needed to insure that his assigned task is fulfilled.

Simple azat.

But again my comments are apparently personalized and viewed as "restrictions".

Nothing personal in my comments, just a means to an end.

If I was getting personal... well that is a whole 'nother book with many chapters and the person who started this thread would pro'ly be in the first one.
